According to Professor Oak, Pokémon take on the personality of those who spend the most time with them. Given that Ash can be difficult, fiery, and not the most mature trainer in the world, it’s only natural for his Pokémon to follow suit.
But Ash is also very headstrong, determined, and ambitious, and the longer a Pokémon stays with him, the more they’ll feed off of those traits and, in some cases, the more obedient they’ll be to help him achieve his goal of being a Pokémon Master.
10 Noctowl Would Do Anything For Ash After What Ash Did For It
The only Shiny Pokémon to be owned by a main character in the anime, Noctowl would do anything for Ash after the trainer risked his own life to pry it from Team Rocket’s mecha claw. Aside from being used in battles, Noctowl has been called upon in other situations, once even carrying a plane that was hit by a storm in the episode “Throwing in the Noctowl.” A serious and intelligent Pokémon, Noctowl is currently with Professor Oak.
9 Pignite Did Whatever Ash Asked To Repay Him For His Support
Ash took a Tepig with very low self-esteem and trained it into a headstrong Pignite. The Fire Pig Pokémon constantly pushed himself to the limit to please Ash and repay him for his support, and also out of a constant fear that his trainer would leave him. His previous trainer, Shamus, undermined his confidence, but Ash took him in and always believed in his ability, for which Pignite was eternally grateful.
8 Squirtle Was Cheeky But Always Listened To Ash
Squirtle is somewhat of a rebel, but always loyal to Ash. The leader of the Squirtle Squad obeyed Ash both in battle and whenever it was asked to perform moves outside of battle, against Team Rocket and their Pokémon, for example. Squirtle joined Ash in “Here Comes the Squirtle Squad!” after Ash saved it from Team Rocket, and rejoined the Squirtle Squad in “The Fire-ing Squad!,” episode 147 of the anime.
7 Ash Relied On Pidgeot Both In And Out Of Battle
Pidgey was one of Ash’s first Pokémon and he frequently called on it outside of battle, usually to send Team Rocket flying with its Gust or Whirlwind attacks, or else to conduct searches. Pidgeot never found itself on bad terms with Ash.
They had a great relationship, so much so that whenever Ash asked the Bird Pokémon to do something, it did it, no questions asked. Ash released Pidgeot into the wild to protect a Pidgey from a Fearow, promising to return for it, which he has yet to do.
6 Ash And Greninja’s Bond Created A New Kind Of Evolution
Froakie wasn’t always obedient, but as it evolved and matured, it became one of Ash’s most devoted Pokémon. Ash and Greninja were such a great team that in “A Meeting of Two Journeys!” their bond caused Greninja to become Ash-Greninja, who went up against Alain’s Mega Charizard X, coming up short in the end after a brave battle. Greninja loves to battle so it listened to its trainer’s commands and did its best. The Ninja Pokémon was released in “Facing the Needs of the Many!”
5 Dragonite Is Obedient And Loyal To A Tee
Dragonite is known for its intelligence and affectionate nature, but it’s also a very obedient Pokémon. An example of its deference to its trainer occurred in “Raid Battle in the Ruins!” After winning a race against Goh’s Beedrill to see who was the fastest, Ash asked Dragonite to take a rest. Another Pokémon might have thrown a tantrum and refused to return to its Pokéball, but Dragonite dutifully acquiesced, even though it didn’t want to.
4 Infernape Thanked Ash For Believing In Him By Doing His Bidding
Ash and Infernape are incredibly alike, both having a strong fighting spirit, wanting to constantly improve, and not knowing when to give up. After a difficult relationship with his former trainer Paul, Ash’s love and care made Chimchar want to do his very best to help him.
Even though Infernape nearly killed Ash when he activated his Blaze ability, he listened to his trainer and was able to overcome his rage when activating it.
3 Pikachu Has Always Been There For Ash
No matter what Ash asks of Pikachu, he’ll always do it, no questions asked. Whether it’s Thundershocking Team Rocket or battling in the Pokémon League, Pikachu has shown his unwavering obedience to Ash on countless occasions. The Mouse Pokémon was the first Ash obtained, and while their relationship didn’t start off particularly smoothly, they’ve since been through thick and thin together and their bond is second to none.
Pikachu hasn’t always done what he’s been told, but the number of times he has far outweigh those he hasn’t. The two have been together since the beginning, and presumably will continue to be.
2 Lapras Made No Complaints About Being Used As Ash’s Personal Ferry
Lapras was initially afraid of humans, but when Ash saved it from Team Rocket in “The Lost Lapras,” they bonded and it learned to trust humans. Lapras was heavily used outside of battle as a means of transportation across bodies of water, and it had no problem ferrying Ash and his friends around. Ash relied on the Transport Pokémon a lot in the Orange League, and when it rejoined its family in “Viva Las Lapras!,” it left a big hole in Ash’s team.
1 Bulbasaur Was Ash’s Most Mature Pokémon And Always Did What Was Asked Of It
Bulbasaur is one of Ash’s most mature and loyal Pokémon. The Seed Pokémon was the fourth one Ash ever caught and it didn’t leave its trainer from that moment on. When Bulbasaur was sent to stay with Professor Oak to stop the Pokémon there from arguing with each other, it didn’t complain. Bulbasaur was a natural leader and great example to Ash’s other Pokémon, always doing what its trainer asked and never questioning him.
