The new DLC for Final Fantasy VII Remake, INTERmission lets players take the reigns as Yuffie during her adventures in Midgar. Though she doesn’t wield an oversized Buster Sword, INTERmission enriches Midgar’s depth by offering new things to see and do. One of the best is the mini-game, Fort Condor. Many foes stand between Yuffie and the Fort Condor Grand Master; here’s how to find and defeat each opponent along the way.
Final Fantasy VII Remake INTERmission details the exploits of the Wutai ninja Yuffie and her ally Sonon throughout a key point in Final Fantasy VII Remake‘s timeline. Beginning just after Avalanche’s assault on Mako Reactor 5, INTERmission leads up to the collapse of the Sector 7 plate.
What Is Fort Condor?
Fort Condor is a mini-game that shares similarities with deck-building games and MOBAs. Players pick which units they’ll use against their opponent before the match. Each player has two weaker Outpost towers on the left and right of their side of the field and a more robust Headquarters tower in the middle of their backfield. The goal in every Fort Condor game is to destroy the opponent’s base tower or be the player who destroyed the most defense towers when time runs out.
Players can summon units anywhere within the area they control on the battlefield. As the one pushes further with their units, they’ll hold a larger part of the field. Every unit will have one of three affiliations: Defense, Vanguard or Ranged. These affiliations interact with each other much like a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. Defense beats Vanguard, Vanguard overcomes Ranged and Ranged defeats Defense. Each unit requires different amounts of ATB to summon depending on its strength; players will have to manage both their ATB and which units they’re summoning to best each opponent.
Maximum ATB, starting ATB and ATB recharge rate are all affected by the type of board (think deck structure) the player uses. Additionally, each board offers specific types of Materia players can use during a match to do things like heal friendly units or damage opposing ones. Each Materia can only be used once per match, so it’s important to utilize each tactically.
How to Beat Johnny
Johnny can be found in one of the alleys in the Sector 7 Slums Residential Area, directly to the right of the Rest Spot icon on the map. He doesn’t field any Vanguard units, but he makes up for it by fielding additional Defense units. Johnny can be toppled without too much effort by focusing on Ranged and Vanguard options to counter whatever he throws on the field.
How to Beat Kyrie
Kyrie is located in the Residential Area, at the start of the northern path toward Marle. Kyrie sports a larger selection of units, but the majority of them are Vanguard. She only has one selection from both Defense and Ranged, so be sure to have one unit to counter each; otherwise, focus on Defense units. One thing to note is that Kyrie can deploy an Officer Barracks that’ll continuously spawn Officers onto the field until it’s destroyed or has run its course.
How to Beat the Shinra Middle Manager
The Shinra Middle Manager is sitting down at a table along the path that leads from the Residental Area of the Sector 7 Slums to Pillar Plaza. He uses a board with a higher ATB recharge rate than previous opponents and uses primarily Ranged units. Yuffie can edit her loadout around this, bringing a majority of Vanguard units to deal with the threat. The Shinra Middle Manager does bring along a single Defense and Vanguard unit, so be sure to have something to deal with those.
How to Beat Jessie
Jessie is sitting right outside the Seventh Heaven on the right side of the patio. Jessie uses a larger board like Kyrie and she also has Grenadier Barracks to pump out Ranged units very quickly. Her weakness is her slow ATB recharge rate and reliance on stationary units. At this point, players will have unlocked some different board options; the Assassin Board will be available to use for free and offers some additional damage from towers and increased ATB recharge. Jessie primarily uses Ranged and Defense units but has one Vanguard option. Build expecting to deploy lots of Vanguard units to fight off Grenadiers and Ranged units to take down Blast-Rays.
How to Beat Roche
This SOLDIER is with his bike in the center of Pillar Plaza. Roche uses a small selection of units with some increased ATB recharge speed and has a few useful Materia tricks. He uses some powerful units like the Vanguard Cutter and Defense M.O.T.H. Unit. These heavy-hitters will need to be focused down, ideally with Materia, before they have the chance to deal some real damage to your Headquarters. Otherwise, Roche will mostly use flying units that can be hard to target, so make sure units can eliminate these threats are taken.
How to Beat Wedge
Wedge is found in the southernmost portion of the Residential Area. He has a large selection of units and increased ATB recharge speed on top of some devious unit selections. Wedge uses many durable units, and his troop selection is varied pretty evenly. The Assassin Board II will provide some additional Materia options for Yuffie and allow for a little more unit control as the battle goes on. Blast-Rays and Cutters will provide a needed line of defense while Slug-Rays, Officers and Troopers support as needed.
How to Beat Chadley
Chadley is located right by the southern path towards Marle in the Residential Area. Chadley doesn’t use many units, but most he does field spawn troops. This can quickly get out of hand if they’re not swiftly eliminated. Rely on Riot Barracks and Sug-Ray Facility units to pump out support while bringing in heavier units like Helicopters to help clear the board. The Battalion Board III is ideal for this battle, allowing for lots of unit choice with good ATB recharge speed. Most importantly, don’t forget about Materia in a pinch.
