Halle Bailey and Jonah Haur-King were spotted filming a scene from the upcoming live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, which may be the film’s “Kiss the Girl” scene, featuring the eponymous song.
In the scene, Ariel and Prince Eric venture for a boat ride during one of the mermaid’s visits to the surface. Meanwhile, Sebastian the Crab (originally voiced by Samuel E. Wright) sings “Kiss the Girl,” one of the most well-known songs from the animated film, focusing on the romance between the two. The photos, taken in Sardinia, Italy, are the first of Bailey and Hauer-King on set together. While the visible location and boat suggest that this is the scene is being filmed, the information could not be confirmed.

The Little Mermaid was reported to have begun early development in 2016, and was originally scheduled to begin filming in April of 2020, but was delayed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The movie recommenced filming at the end of 2020. Alan Menken, who scored and co-wrote songs from the original animated film, returned to the live adaptation as the film’s composer. Menken was also reported to be writing “four or five” new songs for the film, alongside producer Lin-Manuel Miranda. While the only confirmed returning song is “Part of Your World,” it looks like “Kiss the Girl” may be making a return as well.
Directed by Rob Marshall, The Little Mermaid stars Halle Bailey, Melissa McCarthy, Javier Bardem, Jacob Tremblay, Daveed Diggs, Jonah Hauer-King and Awkwafina. The film has yet to receive a release date.
