DOOM Eternal‘s next-gen optimization has officially gone live, offering players 4K resolution, ray-tracing and more.
The optimization will be a part of a free upgrade for console players, with different versions depending on the console in question. Xbox Series X owners will receive three new graphics modes (Ray Tracing Mode, running at 1800p and 60 FPS, Performance Mode, running at 1800p and 120 FPS, and Balanced Mode with 4K and 60 FPS), HDR 10 in any graphics mode, Ultra-Quality Style graphics settings, cross-gen BATTLEMODE support with Xbox One and variable refresh rates and rate shading. Xbox Series S will receive the same features, but with only two graphics modes (Performance Mode at 18800p/120 FPS and Balanced Mode with 1440p/60 FPS).
PlayStation 5 owners will receive the same HDR 10 and Ultra-Quality Style settings, cross-gen BATTLEMODE with PlayStation 4 owners and the same three graphics modes as Xbox Series X (with Performance Mode receiving a slight reduction of 1584p instead of 1800p). They will also receive DualSense adaptive trigger support, providing a more sensitive and immersive experience. PC players will not be receiving further optimization, but will receive the Ray Tracing Mode (which will be available depending on the user’s PC hardware).
The upgrades are available for free to those who own physical or digital copies of DOOM Eternal. The updated game can also be purchased digitally on next-gen console online stores. Free upgrades are also available to Xbox Game Pass members with an Xbox Series X|S. A post on Bethesda’s website provides directions for downloading the update depending on the owner’s console, as well as a brief FAQ section providing additional information. There is currently no time limit on the update’s availability.
DOOM Eternal previously received an update for Nvidia GPU owners, improving the title with RTX technologies, including ray tracing and DLSS. The update for console owners follows a trend of previous-generation games being optimized for next-gen console, which serves to increase their lifespans and provide an up-to-date user experience for those with more powerful systems.
DOOM Eternal, developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks, is available now for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC. The game’s next-gen update is available for free for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S owners.
