Following the events of E3 2021, GameStop has released its list of the top ten most pre-ordered games that made their debut.
According to a report from GamesIndustry, gaming company GameStop has reported that Nintendo titles are dominating the list, with six of the top ten most-ordered games on the list. Metroid Dread holds first place, followed by The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD for the Nintendo Switch, Mario Golf Switch, Mario Party Superstars and finally Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl.
With the high concentration of long-awaited installments and remakes that Nintendo teased this year, it’s unsurprising that these titles are dominating the list of pre-orders. However, Nintendo is not the only company stoking excitement, with Square Enix projects Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Far Cry 6, Dungeons & Dragons Dark Alliance and Madden NFL ’22 taking the spotlight before the list closes out with Pokémon Legends: Arceus at number ten.
Many of the leading titles on the list are recreations or continuations of older series and games. Metroid Dread, for example, was originally slotted for a release in the early 2000s, and has existed since then as a point of curiosity among Metroid fans. Similarly, Pokémon fans have been eagerly looking forward to remakes of the fourth-generation games Pokémon Diamond & Pearl.
Remakes and remasters aside, E3 clearly had several games that fueled the interest of many gamers, although the event itself has been subject to some criticism. Games like Ubisoft’s Far Cry 6 and EA’s Madden NFL ’22 are filling virtual shopping carts at an astounding rate, with thousands of fans eager to get their hands on them.
