The CW has unveiled the extended trailer for the US release of Wellington Paranormal, the spinoff series of 2014’s What We Do in the Shadows.
The trailer reintroduces viewers to Officers Minogue and O’Leary, who made a brief appearance in Shadows when they investigated the main vampires’ flat and were hypnotized into ignoring the carnage within. Under the direction of Sergeant Maaka, the pair will encounter werewolves, aliens, ghosts, demonic possessions and other sundry strangeness as part of their everyday duties as members of the Wellington Police Paranormal Unit. The series will premiere on July 11 on The CW, with episodes available to stream on HBO Max the following day.
Wellington Paranormal premiered on New Zealand channels in 2018 and has so far aired three six-episode seasons, as well as a Christmas special and a collection of shorts about COVID-19 protocols. The series is created by Shadows writer/directors Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, with Clement writing and directing multiple episodes of the show.
The series is the first television spin-off to the Shadows franchise. The second, also called What We Do in the Shadows, began airing in 2019 and followed a different group of vampires living together in the suburbs of Long Island. Two seasons of the show have aired, with a third premiering Sept. 2 on FX.
Created by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, Wellington Paranormal stars Mike Minogue as Officer Kyle Minogue, Karen O’Leary as Officer O’Leary and Maaka Pohatu as Sgt. Ruawai Maaka. It premieres Sunday, July 11 on The CW.
