Batman: Urban Legends Sees the Return of Batman Beyond | CBR

This September, Batman Beyond makes his return as part of an upcoming issue of the DC anthology series Batman: Urban Legends.

Batman: Urban Legends #7 co-writer Jackson Lanzing shared a look at the issue’s cover on Twitter. “Batman is dead. Long live the Batman,” Lanzing wrote. “Batman Beyond returns in “Wake” — a 30-page cyberpunk mystery by [Max Dunbar], [Aditya Bidikar], [Sebastian Cheng] and the Lanzing/[Collin] Kelly hivemind. We’re storming Neo-Gotham — and it’ll never be the same.”

The brainchild of Paul Dini and Bruce Timm, the character of Terry McGinnis was created in 1999 for the DC Animated Universe television series Batman Beyond, a successor to Batman: The Animated Series and The New Batman Adventures set roughly four decades after the latter. In the futuristic Neo Gotham City, Terry assumes the mantle of Batman from a retired Bruce Wayne. Following his on-screen debut on Batman Beyond, Terry made his way to the world of DC comic books. His most recent Batman Beyond solo comic series ended with issue #50 this past December.

Written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly and illustrated by Max Dunbar, with colors by Sebastian Cheng and letters by Aditya Bidikar, Batman: Urban Legends #7 goes on sale Sept. 14 from DC Comics.
