5 Games Like RDR2 | CBR

Red Dead Redemption 2 tells the story of Arthur Morgan, an outlaw living in 1889 America who must fight for his survival and that of his gang while witnessing the fall of the Old West. The open-world is packed with content, from a huge map to explore to various side-missions to complete, and it was hailed as one of the greatest releases of 2018.

While developer Rockstar Games has not confirmed whether or not there will be a third installment, even if one is in the works, it’ll be a long time until that releases. Still, there are plenty of games fans of Red Dead Redemption 2‘s incredible open world and story will enjoy.

Ghost of Tsushima

Games Like Far Cry 6 Ghost of Tsushima

Ghost of Tshushima is a 2020 action-adventure game set during the first Mongol invasion of Japan. A stealth game played from third-person perspective, it contains many of similarities to the Assassin’s Creed series. Players travel around a huge island on horseback as protagonist Jin Sakai, engaging in combat using a katana and exploring side-quests while meeting NPCs. Jin is the sole remaining member of the Sakai clan and a samurai warrior who must recruits allies across the island to fight back against the Mongols.

Fans of Red Dead Online might also enjoy Legends, the game’s multiplayer mode that released in late 2020. This features story missions and a horde mode with waves of enemies for groups of players to fight together.

Assassin’s Creed Origins

2017’s Assassin’s Creed Origins broke the series’ tradition of annual releases, with Ubisoft taking an extra year of development to make sure its Egyptian setting was historically accurate. The game launched to positive reviews from critics regarding its story, characters and visuals. Origins follows Medjay Bayek and his wife Aya as they avenge their murdered son and protect the people of Egypt.

With great open-world features RDR2 fans will love, such as a massive, beautiful landscape to enjoy and a detailed main story, Origins is considered a welcome refresh for the Assassin’s Creed series. It combines series staples like stealth with plenty to explore via horseback, camelback or boat.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Kingdom Come: Deliverance, the first game from developer Warhorse Studios, is an open-world action-RPG set in 1403 Bohemia. The story follows Henry, a survivor of a raid on his village who is now seeking revenge for his murdered family. Over the course of his journey, Henry becomes involved in an attempt to restore the rightful King of Bohemia, but there are also plenty of side-quests and secrets to explore in this vast open world.

Fans of RDR2 will appreciate that, unlike many other medieval-era games, Kingdom Come: Deliverance does not feature magic or sorcery in its weapons system. And while Red Dead players may be used to gunplay, Kingdom Come‘s brash sword and shield gameplay will still leave fans wanting more.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Developed and published by CD Projket Red, The Witcher 3 follows the Geralt in the final chapter of his story as he searches his daughter, Ciri. Geralt and his companions must find the young woman as she’s being pursued by the Wild Hunt, a group who wishes to harness her powers. In terms of sheer explorable scale, The Witcher 3‘s map is just under double the size with approximately 52 square mile to RDR2‘s 29. And, like Red Dead, there’s no shortage of side-quests, important locations, monstrous creatures and story content for players to explore.
