Superman & Lois Reveals Morgan Edge Is Tar-Ro | CBR

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Superman & Lois Season 1, Episode 10, “O Mother, Where Art Thou?,” which aired Tuesday on The CW.

In Superman & Lois, Season 1 always hinted there was more to Morgan Edge (Adam Rayner) than meets the eye. He simply knew too much about Smallville as he raided the mines for X-Kryptonite to build an alien army of his own. Now, following the big revelation that he’s actually from Kal-El’s home planet, audiences discover the truth about his sinister identity, and it rocks Tyler Hoechlin’s Man of Steel to the core.

Superman and Edge have a showdown in the desert where the villain calls Kal “brother,” leaving the hero stunned and, honestly, cynical. However, Edge confirms it’s no ruse; he’s the first son of Krypton to have landed on the planet. He’s actually Tar-Ro, the son of Zeta-Ro and Lara Lor-Van before she married Jor-El.

Lara confirmed this later when her consciousness was revived, admitting she was genetically matched to Tar-Rao due to Krypton’s birth plan. However, she left him when she fell in love with Jor-El. It’s vague if Jor-El knew she had a kid and why Lara would just forget about the boy. That said, Zeta-Ro stole a couple of things from her in revenge.

Firstly, he pilfered her work on resurrection and transferring minds into new vessels so that Kryptonians could live on, along with her sunstone crystal. With this, he built a ship and sent Tar-Ro to Earth before their planet was destroyed. The boy, who experienced life and the destruction of his homeworld, landed scared as he was much older than Kal. Sadly, he was enslaved and experimented on in Britain, only to escape and begin plotting to take over with his legion.

Tar-Ro wants Kal to join him. He thinks it’s their birthright to turn Earth into a New Krypton, prolonging their heritage and giving the world a better race to inhabit it. The kicker is, he wants to bring the real Lara back, too, as he’s never stopped loving his mother. It’s why he’s been keen on using the people the kryptonite poisoned in Smallville, slipping alien minds into them to ensure they could oversee these foot-soldiers as a royal family.

It seems sadistic, but to Edge, it makes perfect sense as humanity is inferior. But as expected, when Kal returns to rebuff his brother’s offer, Edge loses it by making it clear he can die with mankind. Edge summons his other sleeper agents to purge Superman and officially begin the takeover by getting rid of Sam Lane’s Department of Defence. No matter what, Kal’s betrayal won’t stop him. Tar-Ro thinks he’s meant to conquer and fulfill a glorious purpose as Krypton’s savior.

Superman & Lois stars Tyler Hoechlin, Elizabeth Tulloch, Dylan Walsh, Alex Garfin, Jordan Elsass, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Inde Navarrette and Wolé Parks. The series airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
