Creature and character designer Dopepope revealed the uproarious concept art for Godzilla‘s Titanus Tiamat.
Dopepope posted images of the MonsterVerse Titan on Twitter. Highlighting her serpentine body, the art shows Tiamat ready to attack an enemy using her ferocious jaws or tail. The artist said, “Super excited to show my official MONSTERVERSE TITANUS TIAMAT concept development art. It’s a dream come true working w/Legendary to help create 1 of the Titans in their incredible franchise.”
Tiamat made her first appearance in the Godzilla: Dominion graphic novel. While Dominion is a prequel to Godzilla vs. Kong, Tiamat did not appear in film. Thus far, the Titan’s only on-screen reference was in 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, when her name was briefly shown in a scene.
In Dominion, Godzilla encountered Tiamat as he headed to an old underwater lair. During their scuffle, Godzilla discovered Tiamat’s abilities, namely a toxic vapor, anaconda-like constriction and razor-sharp scales. She proved a difficult foe for Godzilla, making her a notable character in Legendary’s MonsterVerse.
Fans may see Tiamat’s fighting skills in the next MonsterVerse film, which is currently being negotiated. Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard began negotiations with Legendary in April, weeks after the film’s highly successful premiere. If Wingard returned for the next installment, he would be the first to direct more than one film in the MonsterVerse franchise.
