F9 Welcomes Cardi B to the Cast With BTS Promo Footage | CBR

A featurette for the upcoming F9 welcomes Cardi B to the world of Fast & Furious.

The behind-the-scenes video showcases Cardi B’s time on set with director Justin Lin and franchise lead Vin Diesel. “Vin Diesel reached out, and he was talking about a role,” she said. “And I’m like, it’s freakin’ Fast & Furious. Get me there. Put me on a plane.'”

Cardi B will portray Leysa, a woman who shares a past with Diesel’s Dominic Toretto and who Cardi B described as a “powerful, strong woman.” She also praised Diesel for his comforting and welcoming attitude on set.

Cardi B’s Leysa is one of many new characters that will make their debut in F9. Other new cast members include John Cena, Michael Rooker, Anna Sawai, Francis Ngannou and J.D. Pardo. Sung Kang is also set to reprise his role as Han Lue after sitting out The Fate of the Furious.

F9 is the latest entry in the main Fast & Furious film series, which is set to come to an end with Fast & Furious 11. However, the franchise is expanding into spinoffs and TV series. Fast & Furious: Spy Racers premiered its fourth season on Netflix this past April, and the spinoff film Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham as their titular Fast & Furious characters grossed over $760 million worldwide. A sequel to that film is in the works, as is a female-centric feature.

This time, that threat will force Dom to confront the sins of his past if he’s going to save those he loves most. His crew joins together to stop a world-shattering plot led by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered: a man who also happens to be Dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob.

Directed by Justin Lin, F9 stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, John Cena, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Helen Mirren, Kurt Russell and Charlize Theron. The film arrives in theaters June 25.
