One Piece: 10 Ways Caesar Clown Could Have Won At Punk Hazard

Caesar Clown was the main antagonist of the Punk Hazard arc in the One Piece universe. As sinister as he was conniving, the power behind the villain’s logia fruit was only rivaled by his deranged and unbelievably talented mind.

Although the Straw Hats defeated him in the second arc of the New World story, there were many ways he could have feasibly won. By identifying Caesar Clown’s missed opportunities, we can better assess whether or not he was as brilliant as he frequently claims to be.

10 Caesar Should Have Called For Doflamingo’s Help Immediately

Doflamingo was the benefactor behind Caesar’s Zoan devil fruits, and the scientist played a staple role in his bond with Kaido. When the Straw Hats breached Punk Hazard, Caesar Clown would have been able to stop them if he contacted his employer immediately to request aid.

Considering that Donquixote was willing to visit the island after Monet’s failure, it follows that he would have heeded the scientist’s request even if it had been made prematurely. This is especially true when considering his vested interest in Luffy ever since the war at Marineford.

9 Caesar Should Have Killed Luffy After Suffocating Him During Their First Encounter

The first fight between Luffy and Caesar resulted in the latter’s narrow success. By siphoning all oxygen in his immediate vicinity, he suffocated Luffy and his comrades.

However, the scientist ignorantly decided to take him prisoner instead of killing him immediately so that he would have more test subjects for his “Land of the Dead” gas. If he had killed Luffy while he had the chance, the hero never would have been able to ruin his laboratory and foil his plans.

8 Caesar Should Have Squeezed The Heart Law Offered Him To Test Its Authenticity

After Law gave Caesar Monet’s heart, he assumed it was Smoker’s and kept it for safekeeping. Once Luffy defeated him and claimed his laboratory, the scientist thought that he was killing the marine by driving a stake into his pulsing trophy and accidentally murdered his assistant instead.

It was unusual for Caesar to be so presumptuous and trusting of Law to begin with, considering their first introduction. If he squeezed the heart in his possession while Smoker was in the room, he would realize that what he held didn’t actually belong to his adversary.

7 Caesar Should Have Choked His Laboratory With Gas The Second The Straw Hats Were Inside

“Land Of The Dead” was the dissolved gas of Smiley that smothered most of Punk Hazard. After the heroes escaped to Caesar’s facility, he attempted to close doors one at a time as he ushered his experiment in so that the heroes would succumb to its effects.

If he simply decided to close two consecutive blocks, they would not have had time to escape. Although this would have cost the lives of his subordinates, Clown already demonstrated that he was willing to sacrifice them on a whim in order to fulfill his plans.

6 Caesar Should Have Had Monet To Go After Sanji To Prevent The Straw Hats’ Initial Escape

Monet would have been a perfect adversary to prevent the Straw Hats’ initial escape from the Biscuit Room. Chopper and Nami were both too weak to fight her, Franky couldn’t cause meaningful damage against her snowy body, and Sanji’s “principles” prevent him from attacking women.

If Caesar had deployed her to staunch their retreat, the heroes never would have been able to lead the children out of his laboratory in the first place.

5 Caesar Should Have Killed Kin’emon When He Had The Chance

Kin’emon breached Caesar’s facility in search of Momonosuke and was apprehended by Law. His body was left diced in pieces at the same room the Straw Hats woke up in after their abduction.

Should Clown have simply killed him after his defeat – or any of the other prisoners who had been taken from the ship – he would have significantly increased his odds during the final battle against Monkey D. Luffy.

4 Caesar Clown Should Have Had His Men Destroy The Thousand Sunny

After Franky and the crew stationed on the Thousand Sunny were hauled off, the ship was left exposed. If Caesar Clown instructed his men to burn it down, the heroes never would have been able to escape the Land of the Dead — at least, not without a final showdown versus the marines to decide who would take the only remaining frigate.

Because of the scientist’s myopic inaction, Franky was eventually able to escape and prevent both ships from being jeopardized by Doflamingo’s rescue party.

3 The Yeti Cool Brothers Should Have Attacked Nami & Usopp Before Brownbeard

The Yeti Cool Brothers were henchmen deployed by Caesar Clown in order to defeat the Straw Hats. Once they found their hiding place, the heroes weren’t in an excellent position to stop them since their bodies had been switched.

Because the mercenaries targeted Brownbeard first (as he was a loose end), Luffy was able to arrive and defeat them before any harm could come to his friends. If they correctly prioritized the pirates instead, they would have been able to exterminate them in time due to their lower durability.

2 Caesar Should Have Ensured He Killed Brownbeard

When Caesar arrived to collect the children, he first fought against Brownbeard, using his “Gastronet” ability to engulf him in an explosion. After the villain presumed his victim dead, he returned to his laboratory and left the heroes buried in rubble.

Because of his carelessness, the Straw Hats were able to ride on the centaur’s back to escape the marauding “Land of the Dead.” If Caesar had been more careful in ensuring his former subordinate’s death, his enemies never would have had the endurance to escape into his hideout and confront him directly.

1 Caesar Should Have Ensured That Vergo Killed Law While He Had The Chance

Vergo with heart

Vergo had Law’s heart in his possession since the beginning of the showdown at the laboratory. However, instead of crushing it immediately, he used it as a crutch to make Law suffer and toy with him.

If Caesar had been more persistent in having his subordinate fulfill his duty, Law never would have recovered to help Luffy. His death would have been a devastating blow to the team’s morale that could cause enough disorientation for the villains to turn the battle back in their favor.
