Life Is Strange: True Colors Shows Alex’s Psychic Empathy in Action

Square Enix and Deck Nine have revealed a new featurette for Life Is Strange: True Colors, which shows off main protagonist Alex Chen’s psychic empathy and delves into how this power is “integral” to the game’s story.

Life Is Strange: True Colors“Power and Consequence” featurette is introduced by musician Maia, aka mxmtoon, who provides Alex’s singing voice. After setting the stage, Maia passes things off to the game’s director, Zak Garriss, for a “first look at Alex’s unique power in action.”

Garriss explains that Alex’s power “impacts every relationship she builds and every decision she makes.” Alex has long thought of her empathic abilities as a curse, having been unable to shut out the “fear, sadness and anger of those around her.” However, Alex must embrace her power in order to uncover the truth regarding her brother’s mysterious death.

Alex can use her psychic empathy in order to tap into people’s emotions, which deepens her relationship with the denizens of Haven Springs, Colorado and, in turn, unlocks new dialogue options and story events. Furthermore, when Alex encounters a “particularly strong aura,” she can “reach out to actively connect with that person’s emotions.” This creates a “Nova,” which is described as a “supernatural flare that transforms the world around Alex into a reflection of that person’s psyche.”
