Franky was the shipwright for the Straw Hat pirates and a formidable character of the One Piece universe. Armed with a diverse arsenal of weapons ranging from flamethrowers to razor-bladed sideburns, he has an abundance of ways to protect his friends and crew.
Even before enhancing his body with Vegapunk’s finest technologies, Cutty Flam has demonstrated his competence and skill in battle. By matching him before the time skip against a diverse number of opponents, we can better appreciate how he has progressed ever since the dramatic separation at Sabaody.
10 COULD BEAT: Kalifa’s Devil Fruit Is Countered By Franky’s Flamethrower
Kalifa’s Devil Fruit allowed her to “clean” her adversaries and make them impossibly slippery. However, it required physical contact in order to use, and the spuds could be dried off (whether by washing them away or through more conventional means).
If Franky uses his “fresh fire,” he’d provide a relatively harmless solution to the threat the agent posed. Considering his “Weapons Left” would assail Kalifa with devastating bullet rounds, it’s unlikely she’d ever have the chance to touch him in the first place.
9 WOULD LOSE TO: Oars Jr. Has Enormous Durability That Franky Couldn’t Contend With
Oars Jr. had enormous durability, capable of surviving a massive attack from Kuma (that could kill any Straw Hat instantly), having his leg decapitated by Doflamingo, and even being impaled from both sides by Gecko Moria.
Considering he could endure the combined assault of three warlords (and a barrage of cannon fire by the Navy), it follows that he should be able to shrug off Franky’s attacks with ease as he tosses him about like a ragdoll and smashes him into scrap.
8 COULD BEAT: Chopper’s Transformations Are Limited & Measurably Less Potent Than Franky’s Weapons
Pre-time skip Chopper would be a relatively trivial adversary for Franky to defeat. Not only is his strength limited by the duration of his rumble ball, but he also does not command nearly as much durability as his cyborg opponent (who by contrast could survive the self-destruction sequence in Vegapunk’s workshop).
After Chopper has inevitably worn himself out, Franky could defeat him with a robust “Strong Right.” His vastly superior arsenal would enable his success, especially when combined with superior durability and endurance to match.
7 WOULD LOSE TO: Zoro Has Cut Through Steel & Would Dice Franky Just As Easily
Capable of moving fast enough to create after images of himself and strong enough to slice through steel, Zoro has both the mobility and striking power necessary to bring Franky down. This is especially true if he could access the cyborg’s vulnerable back during one of his rushing attacks.
Even Franky’s ultimate weapon — his bursting cannons — would not be potent enough to defeat Zoro considering that he was durable enough to remain standing after receiving millions of volts of electricity from Eneru. Unfortunately for the shipwright, his versatile arsenal cannot compensate for Zoro’s superior feats.
6 COULD BEAT: Wapol Is A Slow Melee Fighter Who Would Quickly Become Overwhelmed
While Wapol’s “Factory” ability allows him to produce cannons and other treacherous projectiles, he is primarily a melee fighter – and an extremely immobile one. Considering that Franky was fast enough to keep up with Fukurou (a seasoned CP9 agent), he would be more than skilled enough to keep out of the despot’s range while assailing him with missiles and bullets.
Given Wapol’s low resistance to blunt attacks (proven during his defeat by Luffy), Franky’s “Strong Right” or burst cannon would be more than sufficient to defeat him soundly.
5 WOULD LOSE TO: Crocodile’s Devil Fruit Would Sap Franky Of His Cola
Crocodile’s Devil Fruit may be most applicable to water, but it was also capable of dehydrating any liquid from his opponents’ bodies. Although his conventional attacks (such as sand blasts and weaponry) may not be particularly effective against Franky’s metal exterior, he would be able to depower him entirely by exhausting his cola supply.
His victory is particularly ensured since Franky’s only means of harming him back are via his flamethrower. And given that the warlord survived an encounter with Akainu, Franky’s arsenal is petty in comparison.
4 COULD BEAT: Dosun Is Large, Clumsy, & Relatively Inexperienced
Dosun was a member of the New Fish-Man Pirates who wielded a massive hammer. It was capable of contending with Neptune’s sons and had tremendous (albeit direct) offensive potential.
However, Franky’s “Weapons Left” and “Fresh Fire” would both provide ranged utilities that capitalized on the villain’s low mobility and clumsy reflexes. As a result, Dosun would be defeated well before he had the chance to break the cyborg apart.
3 WOULD LOSE TO: Franky Has No Means Of Countering Perona’s Hollows
Perona’s negative hollows were able to pass through their victims and inflict them with a dreadful malaise. They could not be avoided regardless of how durable the target was and moved at an alarmingly high speed.
Considering that Franky had succumbed to their pernicious effects during the events of Thriller Bark and needed to be saved by Usopp, it follows that he’d fare terribly in a solo battle. His only chance of victory is if he could shoot Perona before her hollows were deployed.
2 COULD BEAT: Don Krieg’s Defenses Would Be Irrelevant Against A Mechanic Opponent
Don Krieg’s arsenal was as vast as Franky’s own, including a steel net, a protective spiked drape, and even a poison gas bomb that can be deployed on a whim. However, the latter requires him to wear a gas mask in order to harness safely. Should Franky strike him with the extendable reach of a “Strong Right,” he’d be able to confiscate such a luxury from his underhanded opponent.
Krieg’s spiked shroud wouldn’t protect him from Franky’s rage, considering that his fists are metal and would not be impacted as profoundly as flesh and bone.
1 WOULD LOSE TO: Kuma Was The Technological Superior Of Franky In Every Conceivable Way
Having been enhanced by the enigmatic Doctor Vegapunk, Kuma was the first villain to defeat the combined efforts of the Straw Hats. He could condense pressure into his palm strong enough to topple giants and instantly defeat Zoro, whose durability feats are known to be impressive.
Moreover, the robot’s beam has tremendously formidable range, and even a replicated ersatz copy of himself (known as a Pacifista) was powerful enough to contend with the Worst Generation. Considering his staggering accolades, Franky’s odds are bleak.
