My Hero Academia: Minoru Mineta’s 10 Worst Personality Traits, Ranked

My Hero Academia‘s cast of characters depicts student heroes of all types, from the gentle and kind Ochaco Uraraka to the high-strung Katsuki Bakugo and the punkish but slightly insecure Kyoka Jiro. This leaves plenty of room for growth and personal development among these characters, and then there is the matter of Minoru Mineta, the fresh-picked hero, Grape Juice.

Minoru has his own set of strengths and weaknesses, and without a doubt, this boy’s personality as a whole is his worst weakness. He can always train with his Quirk to enhance it, but if he doesn’t do some serious growing up as a person, it might all be for nothing. In what ways does Minoru Mineta’s personality hold him back? What are his worst traits?

10 Minoru Is Somewhat Frivolous

This side of Minoru Mineta’s personality isn’t too bad, all things considered, though it’s still not an ideal trait for a hero and he definitely shouldn’t show this side of himself when and if he becomes a full-fledged pro hero. Instead, heroes should be serious and disciplined, as Fourth Kind would say.

Minoru is somewhat frivolous, being perfectly willing to goof off or make silly comments even during a dire situation, or something worse. It’s true that his hero costume looks a bit goofy, but he doesn’t have to act the part, too.

9 Minoru Is Somewhat Uncouth

An uncouth person tends to be rather crude or vulgar at times, and such a person is also somewhat ill-mannered and lacks social graces. During a fight against a villain, being boorish like that is no problem, but being uncouth can hurt a hero’s image when in public.

Everyone understands that heroes have different personalities, but still, no one will respect or trust a hero who is oddly crude or ill-mannered, such as when Mineta made an awkward joke when the Big Three’s Nejire Hado commented on his Quirk. So uncouth.

8 Minoru Is Often Tactless

Being tactless is a trait that influences many of Minoru’s other personality traits, most of them being negative. A tactless person is one who tends to be blunt, insensitive, undiplomatic, and otherwise showing a serious lack of grace during a conversation.

A lack of tact can take many different forms, from being mean during a conversation to making inappropriate comments that make other people uncomfortable. Minoru, in particular, often upsets other people with his constant inappropriate talk, showing a serious lack of tact. He ought to think more about how other people hear what he says.

7 Minoru Is Sometimes Dishonest

Minoru Mineta may not be a compulsive liar, but at times, he’s willing to deceive others or give a false impression to get what he wants, and that’s not how a hero should behave. A dishonest person might not even outright lie, but rather trick other people through lies of omission.

Minoru’s most dishonest moment came when he and Denki Kaminari both asked Shota Aizawa for permission to use the school pool, giving the impression that they wanted to train. Instead, they wanted to check out the girls, and when Tenya Iida gathered all the boys for pool training, Mineta didn’t dare mention the real reason he had booked the pool for that afternoon.

6 Minoru Is Often Petty & Envious

Minoru is too preoccupied with the little things, such as whether the other boys in the class can get the attention of girls. Minoru’s main drive to become a hero is to impress women, but for now, he’s not expressing that sentiment in an ideal way. He has a real envious streak.

When Minoru and Hanta Sero fought Midnight, the R-rated hero, Hanta was put to sleep and lay across Midnight’s lap, and Minoru was hopping mad with envy. He ought to focus on the mission instead, and not worry about who is laying in whose lap. And this wasn’t the only example.

5 Mineta Is Rather Whiny

Being a trainee hero comes with its fair share of hardships, though these students rarely complain about it out loud. Instead, they will see hardship as an opportunity to learn something new and get stronger. Mina Ashido sometimes complains, though, and so does Minoru Mineta.

When something goes wrong, or there’s any inconvenience or complication, Minoru is quick to bellyache about it, whether or not he plans to take any action about it. Less complaining and more doing would be best.

4 Minoru Mineta Is Ungrateful At Times

Minoru Mineta is willing to acknowledge when he needs help or is too weak to solve a problem alone, but he won’t always show proper gratitude to whoever is helping him. Many U.A. students are gracious enough to say thanks, from Ochaco to Momo Yaoyorozu, but Minoru rarely does.

Instead, Minoru tends to worry or complain about the problem, rather than thank the party helping him. He tends to get preoccupied or overwhelmed in battle and doesn’t think to say thanks very often. He ought to work on that.

3 Mineta Is Self-Centered

Minoru tends to make everything about himself, and sometimes, this is just harmless fun, while other times, he can be rather obnoxious about it. Mineta wasn’t afraid to boast about his decent midterm scores to Denki and Mina, suggesting that the entire world is interested in a smart punk like him.

Minoru’s motivation to become a hero is also self-centered, based on impressing ladies and getting them to fawn all over him. Even if Minoru is a perfect gentleman about it, he still ought to put others first. Being a hero is an intrinsically selfless thing, and an “I want the ladies” angle is sure to draw the ire of the hero killer Stain.

2 Minoru Mineta Acts Cowardly During Combat

Fortunately, Minoru is working on this, and he really has no choice if he is going to become a proper hero. When terrifying villains appear out of nowhere, Minoru tends to panic, retreat, and avoid confrontation at all costs. He will even discourage his allies from facing the enemy.

It’s one thing to be cautious and know when to retreat, but panic will just scramble Minoru’s situational awareness and prevent him from forming a battle plan and executing it. He made some progress later, when he had the guts to rush past Midnight, collect Sero, and race for the exit during that mock battle.

1 Minoru Has A Lack Of Restraint

This particular personality trait can be disastrous in certain hands, and in Minoru’s case, his lack of restraint mostly involves girls and his inappropriate comments and ideas. Minoru admires girls a little too much and will actually cross the line if he gets a chance.

Obviously, that is 100% unacceptable, and even when Tsuyu Asui and Kyoka Jiro punish him for it, he keeps doing it anyway. Even in a recent episode, Minoru put his hands on Mina during their fight with Class 1-B, prompting a furious Mina to toss him aside. Somehow, this move helped Minoru distribute his Pop Off spheres everywhere, setting a trap for Class 1-B.
