Now that the manga is over, a lot of the readers can also see how much the last chapter was foreshadowed throughout the anime’s soundtrack. Many of the anime’s best songs had hidden meanings that referenced parts of the story that hadn’t yet happened, including things that haven’t even happened in the anime yet.

10 “Shinzou Wo Sasageyo” Foreshadows How The Warriors Feel

“Shinzou wo Sasageyo” was the opening theme for the entirety of Attack on Titan‘s second season, being the only season to have one opening as it had the least amount of episodes. Many fans think of the Survey Corps when hearing it, especially due to the chorus.

However, when listening to it again after watching the Marley arc, fans may be shocked to find that the verses seem to be coming from the perspective of the Warrior Unit. As Marley wasn’t even known by fans during the second season, it only made sense for fans to think it was about the soldiers, but now the meaning is very different.

9 “K21” Foreshadows Levi’s Similarities To Kenny

Levi’s uncle, Kenny the Ripper, was an antagonist that was introduced in the third season. His theme song, “K21,” played during a battle between Levi and the Survey Corps vs Kenny and the Military Police.

However, it also played in the fourth season, when Levi fought Zeke, the Beast Titan, for the third time. This highlights how Levi is very similar to Kenny, which wasn’t nearly as obvious when the two were on opposite sides of a war.

8 “The Reluctant Heroes” Foreshadows Grisha’s Story

Grisha meets Keith

Once Eren mastered the ODM gear, Keith thought to himself that Grisha’s son had just become a soldier, revealing that the head instructor of the 104th Cadet Corps knew Eren’s father.

During this, “The Reluctant Heroes” plays, which hints at a lot of things that happened to Grisha throughout his life, including how he got in trouble for going beyond the wall in Liberio, which resulted in his sister, Faye, dying at the hands of a Marleyan officer and his dogs, and how Eren spoke to him through the coordinate, convincing him to take the Founding Titan so Eren would be able to use it.

7 “YouSeeBIGGIRL/T:T” Foreshadows The Rumbling & How People View Eren

“YouSeeBIGGIRL/T:T” played in the second season when Reiner and Bertholdt were revealed to be the Armored and Colossal Titans. It has become one of the most beloved songs in the series and some fans have even said that they want the song to return during a huge moment in the fourth season.

If this did happen, it would make a lot of sense to play it during the Rumbling as it hints to it as well as how both the Yeagerists and Eren’s enemies see him, or when the Survey Corps and Warrior Unit fought Eren since the song references what they hoped to achieve by stopping their former comrade.

6 “My War” Foreshadows Eren’s Goal & The Consequences Of It

The newest opening of the anime is “My War,” which hints at how Eren isn’t actually an enemy to the people that were his comrades for years, but rather wanted to help them by making the rest of the world see them as heroes.

However, in order to do this, he had to become a mass murderer. One of the saddest deaths in the Rumbling was when two young boys, Ramzi and Halil, were crushed by a Colossal Titan that stepped on them, which is also referenced in this song.

5 “Barricades” Foreshadows Eren’s Life After Getting To The Ocean

“Barricades” played at the end of the second season, when Historia tries to convince Ymir to stay with her while Eren watches Hannes fight the Titan that killed his mother. The opening lines are about the ocean, which Eren finally gets to see at the end of season 3.

From that moment, Eren’s personality began to change, which was hinted at in this song, as well as things that he has done towards the end of the manga, such as how he was responsible for the deaths of his parents and how his mind got messed up.

4 “YAMANAIAME” Foreshadows Eren Losing His Mind

Another song from season two that foreshadowed how Eren suffered mentally towards the end of the series is “YAMANAIAME.” It also references many other things that happened since the Rumbling began, such as Eren’s friends fighting against him for the freedom of everyone in the world no matter what race they were

It also references how the Eldians on Paradis honored Eren after his death, and how hurt Mikasa was after the final words that Eren said to her.

3 “Before Lights Out” Foreshadows Mikasa’s Ancestry

When fans first heard “Before Lights Out,” a song that was in the third season, they weren’t sure who it was about, with most debating between whether it was Erwin or Historia.

However, after learning that Mikasa is a descendant of Hizuru’s royal family, it makes more sense that the song is about Mikasa, especially as, like Erwin, Mikasa helped take back Wall Maria. The song also references the dream that Eren had of her at the beginning of the series and the time they spent together in the coordinate.

2 “Call Of Silence” Foreshadows The Final Chapter

Ymir Returns To Human Form

“Call of Silence” is a song from the second season that played when Ymir’s backstory was revealed. After the last chapter came out, many readers thought back on the lyrics and realized that they fit the ending of Eren and Mikasa’s character arcs perfectly.

In the last scene, Eren was reincarnated as a bird and flew down to Mikasa, who was sitting at his grave, next to the tree he slept under at the beginning of the series, so he could wrap the scarf he gave her around her neck.

1 “Red Swan” Also Foreshadows Eren’s Reincarnation

The opening of the first half of the third season, “Red Swan,” is another song that gave fans clues that Eren would die at the end of the series and be reincarnated as a bird. Due to the song being slower and more emotional than the other openings, some have hoped for a long time now that “Red Swan” would play during the credits of the final episode.

Now that it also references what happens in the last scene, there’s another reason for the series to end with this beautiful composition.
