Shaun & Lea’s Future

At the beginning of Season 4, Shaun and Lea were in the early days of their relationship after Lea finally admitted her feelings for Shaun. The couple had to learn how to navigate each other’s lives, something made harder by Lea getting a job at the hospital. But eventually, they would find a nice balance, at least until Lea dropped the bombshell that she was pregnant.

The back half of Season 4 saw the couple face parenthood head-on, with Shaun having difficulty connecting to his child. Sadly, after putting in the work, tragedy struck when Lea lost the baby due to a complication. Shaun and Lea head to Guatemala in the finale, hoping to learn to move on, and after a tough trip, they finally come back together, so much so, Lea asks Shaun to marry her.

Claire’s New Role

Season 4 has been incredibly hard on Claire, who lost Dr. Melendez right after admitting she had feelings for him. Trying to move on from her heartbreak, she would dive into her work, helping those who lost people to the coronavirus pandemic reconnect. After finding inner peace, however, Claire’s life is once again thrown into disarray due to the sudden reemergence of her father.

Having not seen the man since she was a child, Claire discovers that her father has cancer and that he’s refusing treatment. She gives him some tough love, which convinces him to get help, and the two begin to work through their issues. This development put Claire in a good place heading into the trip to Guatemala, where she would thrive during the surgical team’s ten-day mission. Things go so well, in fact, that she decides to take a senior position at the local hospital, leaving her friends in San Jose behind for a wonderful opportunity.

Dr. Andrews’ Marriage

Dr. Marcus Andrews has been a staple of The Good Doctor from the beginning, but he isn’t always the nicest guy. For Shaun’s first few years at the hospital, Andrews was a constant thorn in his side, at least until the two finally started to see eye-to-eye in Season 3. That positive change would transition into Season 4, with Andrews taking Melendez’s place on the surgical staff alongside all the residents.

But after dealing with Covid-19 and all the other hardships this year brought, a strain is put on Andrews’ marriage behind the scenes. During the Guatemala trip, he begins to flirt with a local nurse, which catches the attention of some of his friends. Eventually, Andrews reveals that his wife moved out of the house, and he’s just trying to find happiness again. While Season 4 doesn’t offer any resolution for his marital issues, the show’s next outing will certainly touch on where his love life goes next.

Lim’s Burgeoning Romance

On the topic of love lives, after being diagnosed with PTSD and surviving the difficulties of the pandemic, Lim heads to Guatemala with a new sense of purpose. She quickly befriends Dr. Rendon at the local hospital, and after butting heads initially, the two start a whirlwind romance that spans both episodes of the two-part finale.

Things get rocky when Rendon starts noticing Lim hiding parts of herself from him, but she eventually discloses her PTSD diagnosis, and they make up. Lim’s revelation also prompts Rendon to make one of his own, telling Lim the only reason he hasn’t been back to the United States is because of an active warrant for his arrest. Wanting to prove his devotion, he tells her he plans to have it cleared up and wants to visit her in the future.

Park & Morgan Finally Admit Their Feelings

After nearly three full seasons of hating each other, the Season 4 finale of The Good Doctor finally makes a breakthrough in Park and Morgan’s relationship. After getting through the pandemic together, Park and Morgan decide to become roommates, which, of course, leads to them hooking up. This lasts for a few episodes until Park decides he wants more out of the relationship. Morgan being who she is, shoots Park down, forcing him to end the friendship and try to find love elsewhere.

This arrangement stays in effect heading into Guatemala, where Park and Morgan’s relationship is once again put to the test. With a patient in need of emergency surgery and no surgeon available, Morgan takes on the case despite her serious arthritis. She makes it most of the way through the surgery, but Park has to take over to finish up. While Morgan feels like a failure, Park reassures her that she did a noble thing. It’s not long after that the two admit their feelings for one another, setting up another romance for Season 5.

Created by David Shore, The Good Doctor stars Freddie Highmore, Antonio Thomas, Richard Schiff, Paige Spara, Fiona Gubelmann, Will Yun Lee and Christina Chang. New episodes air Mondays at 10 pm ET/PT on ABC.
