Jujutsu Kaisen: 10 Pokémon Yuji Itadori Would Have On His Team

The worlds of Jujutsu Kaisen and Pokémon might both have some awesome fighting techniques — and a few terrifying haunted areas — but, tonally speaking, there couldn’t be a bigger difference between the kid-friendly franchise and the dark, horror-inspired shonen series.

This means, though, that it’s all the more fun to imagine a crossover between the two worlds. Yuji Itadori might have mastered some of jujutsu’s most difficult techniques by himself, but there are definitely some Pokémon that would make him even stronger by fighting at his side. And who would he pick as a loyal companion? Here are a few of the most likely options.

10 Girafarig’s Tail Has A Mind Of Its Own

girafarig

Yuji might want a Pokémon on his team that understands what it’s like to share a body with another mind — in which case, Girafarig would be a perfect choice. This giraffe-like Pokémon has a small head on its tail with its own brain and a habit of biting the hand of any unsuspecting trainer who gets too close.

Luckily for the Pokémon world, Pokédex entries imply that this second brain is too small to come up with anything like Sukuna’s schemes for world domination, even if it does share the King of Curses’ toothy smile.

9 Like Yuji, Hitmonchan Can Pack A Punch

Although he tried out using cursed weaponry in early episodes, Yuji usually relies on his bare firsts when it comes to fighting. Divergent Fist was the first real technique he learned — a powerful punch that relies on a gap between the physical hit and the hit of cursed energy. This would later be upgraded to Black Flash, an incredibly powerful technique that sees Yuji hit the enemy with his fist and his cursed energy at almost exactly the same time.

With these techniques in mind, it’s not hard to see why Hitmonchan, the Punching Pokémon, would be a great fit for Yuji. They might even be able to teach each other some new hard-hitting moves.

8 Lucario Is A Master Of Manipulating Auras

According to its Pokémon Shield Pokédex entry, Lucario will only bond with a trainer with justice in their heart. This definitely applies to Yuji, whose desire for others to die a good death means that he will stop at nothing to bring down villains such as Mahito.

Lucario’s ability to manipulate its own aura also makes him the perfect partner to Yuji. A jujutsu user’s “cursed energy” seems similar to the idea of an aura, so having Lucario as a partner might help Yuji to get even better at controlling his levels of cursed energy, which is an essential skill to have during battle.

7 Floatzel Also Dedicates Itself To Saving Those In Need

A huge part of Yuji’s motivation throughout the series is saving people from a horrible death at the hands of a curse. This dedication to helping people would make the Floatzel, a Water-type from Generation IV, a great addition to his team.

As its name suggests, Floatzel has a floatation sac on its back that it can inflate at will. According to Pokédex entries, this essentially turns Floatzel into an inflatable boat, and it can often be seen helping people who have gotten into trouble in the water.

6 Scrafty’s Style Is On Point

Yuji is known for his streetwear-inspired fashion sense, which is exemplified by the fact that he even incorporates a bright red hoodie into his Tokyo Jujutsu High uniform. This slick style suffuses the whole series, with its amazing hip-hop soundtrack and the parade of streetwear outfits seen in the first ED.

To match Yuji, one of the coolest-looking Pokémon out there is Scrafty, with its bright red mohawk and “hoodie” made out of shed skin. When it comes to looks, they’d definitely match each other on the battlefield. Plus, as its ability Moxie implies, this Pokémon is hot-headed enough to match Yuji in combat as well.

5 Arcanine Is Awe-Inspiringly Fast

One of the hints that Yuji is going to be something special comes in the very first episode of the anime, where it’s revealed that he can run 50 meters in three seconds — that’s a whole two seconds faster than the world record. With this incredible speed, one of the few Pokémon that would be able to keep up with him is Arcanine, which, according to its Pokédex entries, can run thousands of miles in a single day.

Plus, this Pokémon is apparently so majestic that people can’t help but be awestruck by it, which means that even Sukuna would also agree that it fits their shared body perfectly.

4 Medicham Represents The Power Of Careful Training

As its Pokédex entries state, this Psychic/Fighting-type Pokémon built up its immense strength (as represented by its ability, Pure Power) through dedicated yoga training. It certainly doesn’t have the muscles of a Fighting-type like Machamp, but it’s learned the skills to match it.

As a Pokémon that represents the importance of training, then, Medicham would probably appeal to Yuji, who despite his inherent strength must still keep pushing himself in order to measure up to the incredibly powerful jujutsu sorcerers and curses around him. Medicham’s training, though, probably didn’t involve marathoning movies.

3 Sirfetch’d Represents Powerful Critical Hits

Ash's Sirfetch'd in Pokemon Anime

Sirfetch’d, the evolution of Galarian Farfetch’d, looks the part of a gallant knight — but that’s not the only reason it suits Yuji and his determination to do good.

Farfetch’d only evolves into Sirfetch’d once it has landed three critical hits in a single battle. As critical hits are rare and inflict huge amounts of damage, their equivalent in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen would be Black Flash, a technique that is incredibly difficult to pull off but is devastating to the opponent. Since Yuji was able to land the technique four times in a single battle, he’s definitely worthy of having this Pokémon on his team.

2 Like Yuji, Mimikyu Is Hiding A Dark Secret

Jesse's Mimikyu

Just as the King of Curses, Sukuna, spends the series hiding inside of the cheerful high school student Yuji, something very scary indeed is lurking underneath Mimikyu’s disguise. In fact, according to its Pokédex entries, anyone who catches a glimpse of its true form won’t last very long — something that also applies to anyone who happens to be around when Sukuna shows his face.

So, Yuji would definitely relate to Mimikyu. But he’s also kindhearted enough to take in this Pokémon that’s trying its best to look cute.

1 Yuji Might Be Able To Earn The Help Of The Legendary Pokémon Mew

As the first mythical Pokémon to be introduced, as well as being capable of transforming into any other Pokémon and learn just about any move, Mew is known as one of the most powerful legendary Pokémon out there. It makes sense, then, that it makes a point of only appearing to trainers that are “pure of heart.”

With his dedication to helping others and the lengths he goes to for his friends, Yuji is definitely the sort of person that Mew would choose as a companion. And, with the terrifyingly powerful forces of evil that he’s up against, the power of a legendary Pokémon would be very welcome.
