Star Wars: Every Jedi Voice Rey Hears in The Rise of Skywalker

The culmination of Disney’s Star Wars trilogy takes place on the hidden planet of Exegol when Rey fights against a clone of Darth Sidious in The Rise of Skywalker. As the last remaining Jedi, she is forced to face one of the most powerful Sith in Star Wars history on her own. Except, she is not alone.

As Rey lies on the ground, nearly defeated, she hears the voices of many past Jedi, giving her the guidance and strength to rise and defeat the embodiment of evil in front of her. Here are all of the Jedi that speak to Rey through the Force, what they say and who played them.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

“These are your final steps, Rey. Rise and take them.” … “Rey.” … “Rise.”

The first Jedi that Rey hears is Obi-Wan Kenobi. Since A New Hope, Obi-Wan has been a Star Wars staple and, including his voiceovers, he makes an appearance in every trilogy. He was the one that trained Anakin as a Jedi, and he was also the one that fought and dismembered the newly christened Darth Vader on Mustafar. In the original trilogy, he sacrificed himself to his former apprentice and became a Force ghost that could help guide Luke on his journey to knighthood. This was not the first time that Rey had heard him either. In The Force Awakens, Obi-Wan spoke to her in Maz’s castle when she touched the Skywalker lightsaber; he told her, “Rey, these are your first steps.” Ewan McGregor and Alec Guinness combine to say these lines to Rey.

Anakin Skywalker

Anakin questions the council

“Rey.” … “Bring back the balance, Rey, as I did.” … “The Force surrounds you, Rey.” … “Let it lift you.”

The next Jedi that Rey hears is the Chosen One himself, Anakin Skywalker. After being hailed as the one who would bring balance to the Force, Anakin fell to the Dark Side, destroyed the Jedi Order and became the evil Darth Vader. Only through the goodwill and persistence of his son, Luke, was he able to be redeemed to the Light and fulfill his destiny. Here, he is calling Rey to do the same thing he did: “Bring back the balance.” Hayden Christensen voiced Anakin in The Rise of Skywalker.

Ahsoka Tano

“Rey.” “…As it guided us.”

One of the most popular figures that Rey hears is Ahsoka Tano. During the Clone Wars, she left the Jedi Order after being wrongly accused of bombing the Jedi Temple. She continued to do good but refused to call herself a Jedi for years to come. Most recently, she made an appearance in The Mandalorian, but the inclusion of her voice here seems to indicate that she is dead by the time of The Rise of Skywalker. Although, if Rey can hear her, Ahsoka must have rejoined the ranks of the Jedi at least on a spiritual level before she died. Here, she is voiced by her Clone Wars voice actor, Ashley Eckstein.

Kanan Jarrus

“Rey.” … “In the heart of a Jedi lies her strength.”

Originally the Padawan Caleb Dume, Rey hears Kanan Jarrus speaking to her as well. He spent years in hiding after his master saved him from Order 66. Eventually, he started a rebel cell and worked to harass the Empire. He also trained the boy Ezra Bridger in the ways of the Jedi. As he and his crew were rescuing Hera Syndulla, he sacrificed himself to allow everyone else to escape. Here, Kanan is voiced by his Star Wars Rebels actor, Freddie Prinze Jr.

Luminara Unduli

“Rey.” … “In the night, find the light, Rey.”

Rey also hears the Mirialan Jedi Master, Luminara Unuli. During the Clone Wars, she was a great strategist who was a stickler for the Jedi code. Somehow, Unduli survived Order 66 but was captured soon after. She was then executed, but the Empire used her Force-imbued remains as bait in a trap for other Jedi who felt the remnants of her presence. She is voiced by The Clone Wars actor, Olivia d’Abo.

Qui-Gon Jinn

Qui-Gon Jinn from the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy

“Every Jedi who ever lived, lives in you.” … “We stand behind you, Rey.” … “Rise.”

Rey even hears Qui-Gon Jinn. He was the one responsible for Anakin’s training as a Jedi. He found the boy on Tatooine and brought him to the Jedi Temple, but he was killed by Darth Maul on Naboo before he could train the Chosen One. He was also the first Jedi to learn how to maintain consciousness and manifest himself after death. Qui-Gon later taught the ability to Yoda and Obi-Wan. He is voiced here by the great Liam Neeson.

Yoda

“Alone, never have you been.” … “Rise in the Force, Rey.”

Arguably the most powerful Jedi in the prequel-era, Yoda also speaks to Rey. As a lifelong teacher, he guided many Jedi to knighthood, so it’s only natural for him to have a hand in Rey’s journey. After failing to stop Palpatine from overthrowing the Republic, Yoda exiled himself on Dagobah, where he stayed until Luke Skywalker found him. After training Luke, Yoda died peacefully and committed himself to the Force. He is voiced by the legendary Frank Oz.

Aayla Secura

Aayla Secura from Star Wars Attack of the Clones

“Let it guide you.”

Rey also hears the Twi’lek Jedi General, Aayla Secura. She was a powerful female Jedi Master during the Clone Wars and was known for her utilitarianism. Master Secura was brutally gunned down on the planet of Felucia during Order 66. Here, she is voiced by Jennifer Hale.

Mace Windu

Mace Windu from the prequel Star Wars Trilogy

“Rey.” … “Feel the Force flowing through you, Rey.”

Rey hears Mace Windu because no group of Jedi would be complete without the ostentatious Jedi Master. Always at odds with Anakin’s training, he was the Jedi who told the Chosen One to wait while he went to personally confront Darth Sidious. After defeating the Sith lord, he was betrayed by Anakin and seemingly fell to his death when Sidious electrocuted him out of the window. There are, however, persisting rumors of Windu’s survival. He is voiced by Samuel L. Jackson.

Adi Gallia

“Rise, Rey.”

Rey also hears from former Jedi Council member Adi Gallia. She was aggressive and strict as a Jedi, even being callous and sarcastic at times, but she was also wise, aggressive and a valuable source of information. Although she held her own against Grievous, she was no match for Savage Opress. She died during the Clone Wars at his brutal hands. She is voiced here by her The Clone Wars actor, Angelique Perrin.

Luke Skywalker

Older Luke

“You are not alone Rey.” … “Rey, the Force will be with you. Always.”

The last voice that Rey hears is Luke Skywalker. As the young hero of the Rebellion, he helped destroy two Death Stars and redeemed his father, Darth Vader, to the Light Side. Later, he became disillusioned with himself and the Jedi and cut himself off from the Force. Only because of Rey’s insistence did he return from his exile and save his friends yet again. This time, though, he put so much of himself into a Force projection that it killed him, showing that Luke was once again willing to sacrifice himself to save others. He is voiced by the legendary Mark Hamill.
