Destruction AllStars, the vehicular combat game exclusive to PlayStation 5, is adding online bots in its next update.
According to a post on the game’s subreddit, developer Lucid Games confirmed that it was adding the online bots to compensate for lower player counts during off-peak hours. Bots will be added to lobbies when not enough players are available to join the game. Given the relative size of Destruction AllStar‘s community, players who miss the peak hours of the game are unlikely to find a match. The addition of bots should prevent long wait times and make matchmaking more consistent.

“We want to ensure that matches are filled to capacity with as many real players as possible, but when missing X amount of players when queuing for a match, AI bots will take the remaining places,” reads the developer’s post. According to Lucid Games, the peak hours for Destruction AllStars are 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 2 p.m. to 1 a.m. on weekends.
The only game mode exempt from online bots is Blitz, which is considered to be Destruction AllStar‘s most competitive offering. Lucid Games confirmed that Blitz will “never” use bots to fill in for players.
Beyond the addition of online bots, the developer also announced two new quality of life additions: Global Parties and a new Playlist feature. Global Parties will allow players to group up with friends and join both Solo modes and Team modes together. This feature has been in development for a while but due to “a few dependencies” has taken longer to implement than expected.
As for the updated Playlist feature, this should make finding game modes players enjoy much easier. Lucid Games promises more information on the system at a later date. Smaller changes include an overhaul of the “slam” feature, improvements to the game’s networking to prevent “ghost hits,” balancing of the game’s roster of “AllStars” and potential changes to character abilities.
Lucid Games did not provide a solid release date for this update but did confirm that the Dev Update blog was the first of many, promising more to come “with other planned changes and features” when it has more to share.
Launched in February through PS Plus, Destruction AllStars was met with a generally positive reception, with many critics enjoying its fast and frenetic gameplay despite its often shallow depth and lack of content. Destruction AllStars is available for PlayStation 5.
