Originally hailing from the Street Fighter series, Chun-Li is kicking into Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid. In Battle for the Grid, Chun-Li morphs into the Phoenix Ranger, determined to prevent Lord Zedd’s heinous plans.
For those who’ve played Chun-Li in any other game, they’ll already feel right at home with her Battle for the Grid moveset. In-game, she sports many of her iconic moves, like the Spinning Bird Kick and the Hyakuretsukyaku. Even better, both Street Fighter characters come with their native input commands for their special moves. For example, Chun-Li is considered a “charge” character, which means players will need to hold directional inputs for some special moves.

Normal Attacks & Assists
Compared to the rest of the cast, Chun-Li has several tools to help her mix up the opponent. First and foremost is her “Kasairyuu,” which is an overhead attack. However, players won’t normally be able to combo into anything else without the help of an assist. There’s also a fake-out version of “Kasairyuu,” which is performed by holding the input. If players are standing next to the opponent, Chun-Li will flip over them, which can also allow them to steal the corner.
“Yosokyaku” is Chun-Li’s familiar aerial head-stomp. She can perform this move three times in a row, with the last hit sending the opponent straight down. Anytime during the 1st and 2nd stomps, Chun-Li is capable of cancelling the move with an air-dash. This move must be performed in the air first, as she cannot cancel into it from any other aerial attack.
“Sankaku Tobi” gives Chun-Li added mobility, provided she’s in or near the corner. By pressing forward with her back to a wall, Chun-Li can perform a wall jump. This gives her an extra escape option if she’s in the corner or a mix-up tool if she’s on the offensive.
Finally, Chun-Li’s assist is her M “Hyakuretsukyaku.” It’s good for locking down opponents or combo extensions. On hit, players can tag into Chun-Li and continue into a combo.
Special Moves & Supers
Chun-Li’s only projectile is her “Kikoken.” It’s similar to the Hadoken, albeit a little slower and with a shorter reach. The move becomes faster the heavier the button input is. Chun-Li also has an EX version of the Kikoken, which sends out a blue phoenix towards the opponent. It travels slowly but can beat out other projectiles. If players use the H version, Chun-Li can press H again for a short-ranged “Sorou Kikoken,” which crumples the opponent.
It wouldn’t be Chun-Li without her “Hyakuretsukyaku,” and Battle for the Grid does a fantastic job bringing it to life. Chun-Li has Light, Medium, Heavy and EX variations of the “Hyakuretsukyaku.” The Light version is quick and knocks the opponent away on hit. The Medium version keeps the opponent standing, allowing for a follow-up with an assist. Heavy “Hyakuretsukyaku” is a combo starter, as it can cancel into a launcher (Tenku Hasha Kyaku) by pressing Heavy again. Finally, the EX “Hyakuretsukyaku” is invincible to projectiles and does significant damage on hit. Additionally, “Hyakuretsukyaku” can be performed in the air. The aerial H “Hyakuretsukyaku” can also be canceled into a spike that leads into a ground bounce.
Naturally, Chun-Li has her most iconic special, “Spinning Bird Kick.” This is performed by holding down, then pressing up, followed by an attack button. During “Spinning Bird Kick,” players can press H to cancel it into “Shouheki Hanchou Kyaku,” a leaping kick that sends the opponent flying. “Shouheki Hanchou Kyaku” is performed automatically after using the EX “Spinning Bird Kick,” which also serves as Chun-Li’s reversal.
Finally, Chun-Li’s super “Hoyokusen” hails straight from Street Fighter V. Upon performing the super, Chun-Li winds up and unleashes a flurry of kicks that absolutely decimate the opponent. Chun-Li can jump cancel the last hit of “Hoyokusen” and finish with an aerial combo, too. “Hoyokusen” is also completely invincible on use, so players can use it to get out of tough spots.
