The gameplay in House of Ashes will look familiar to fans of the series, as players are prompted to choose from a range of dialogue options and actions. Developer Supermassive Games promises that every decision, no matter how small, will have consequences on the game’s overall story.

House of Ashes, which can be played as a standalone title, is the third installment of The Dark Pictures Anthology. The series sees players step into the shoes of a variety of characters as they attempt to survive through decision-making and sharp reflexes tested by quick-time events.

Starting with ghost ship-themed Man of Medan in 2019, the series’ most recent release was Little Hope in October 2020. Man of Medan follows the story of a group of students investigating a shipwreck in the South Pacific Ocean, while Little Hope tells the story of a haunted town and the group of travelers who find themselves lost within it.

House of Ashes pursues a different course as the characters become caught in the ruins of a temple. Another trailer was released earlier in May which highlighted actress Ashley Tisdale as one of the protagonists. The Dark Pictures Anthology is known for including celebrities as both character models and voice actors. Man of Medan starred Shawn Ashmore (X-Men, The Boys), while Little Hope featured Will Poulter (The Maze Runner, We’re The Millers).

The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes releases later this year for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
