As gruff and ferocious as Wolverine is, he really does not struggle with making allies. He’s been a leader on various different X-Men teams and always seems to find help while off on his solo adventures. When Wolverine’s war with the vampires was just beginning, it was not a surprise when he met Louise the vampire hunter who immediately had his back. Now, things have gone south for Louise and Logan is the only one encouraging her to stay on the righteous path.

Logan and Louise first met on the streets of Paris when he was first beginning his investigation into the Vampire Nation in Wolverine #1. Logan walked right into a trap which led to him being captured by the vampires. Luckily for Wolverine, Louise followed him into the trap and saved him from the vampires. Louise would eventually reveal herself as a vampire hunter belonging to an ancient order.
Unfortunately for Louise, Logan got busy participating in the X of Swords event and saving an old comrade from Madripoor. During this time, the vampire hunters’ guild was having their annual get-together, which was interrupted by an attack from the vampires. Louise was turned during this event, as revealed to Logan in Wolverine #11. She knows that she is losing control and Logan feels it is his responsibility to protect her.
Louise is now scared that she is going to fully turn into a vampire. She has been microdosing herself with garlic and holy water to keep the infection at bay but time seems to be running out. Logan explained to her that he has had positive experiences with vampires that were fighting back against their infliction. The pair are then ambushed by a vampire and the extent of Louise’s situation became much clearer.
The vampire is the former leader of the ancient order of vampire hunters who attempted to convince Louise to switch sides. Louise can hear Dracula’s voice in her head, telling her to turn. The vampire gives Louise the opportunity to turn on Wolverine and join Vampire Nation. His offer is cut short by Wolverine who stabs a wooden beam through the vampire’s chest. Wolverine then brought Louise to Krakoa in an attempt to cure her. While this proves to be ineffective, the mutants arm Louise with all-new vampire hunting equipment. This helped her take the fight to the vampires with Wolverine as they poisoned the hive.
While Wolverine’s initial attraction to Louise appeared to be romantic, his feelings seem to be changing. He sees a lot of himself in the new vampire and thinks that he can be the perfect role model for her. His inner monologue states that his troubled past allows him to do the right thing in the present. While Louise believes she may be lost as a vampire, Logan knows that this is not the end. There is a chance that he could train her to be much more powerful than she was before.
Wolverine and Louise’s war with the vampires is far from over. While the pair were able to strike a damaging blow to the elites of Vampire Nation, Dracula still remains and he continues to grow his army ever stronger. Wolverine and Louise are now in the process of recruiting another faction to fight by their side. The extra help would be nice, but Logan knows that he is capable of fighting the vampires on his own, especially with his newest ally by his side.
