The new Star Wars series The Bad Batch is a much-welcomed addition to the galaxy. Fans are introduced to the rogue force during the execution of the heinous Order 66 during the Clone Wars. The squad of clones, who defected from the Empire, brings some of the most eccentric characters in the Star Wars universe (which is saying a lot).
The series also shows how these clones aren’t just mindless cogs but they can instead have deep convictions and moral struggles in their identity. Star Wars fanatics should be thrilled to get to know this cast of characters who will undoubtedly change the narrative on the potential of clones in the galaxy.
10 Fans Have Compared Bad Batch To The Winter Soldier
It’s always interesting when fans can trace similarities of characters in completely different mediums and universes. After Disney+ premiered the successful The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, they debuted the highly anticipated Bad Batch. Writers have noticed that Crosshair, the sniper in the Bad Batch who turned on his crew, has a similar trajectory to Bucky Barnes in the MCU. Both were placed under mind control to turn into badass assassins. Bucky was put under mind control due to Hydra and Crosshair’s inhibitor chip was reprogrammed by Admiral Tarkin. While some may find this to be a leap, it’s intriguing for fans of Marvel and Star Wars to see the parallels.
9 Mace Windu May Appear Throughout The Series
There was always been a theory that Mace Windu was still alive, even though it seems pretty clear he died in Revenge of the Sith. Star Wars connoisseurs are hoping that we will find out more definitive information on the fate of Mace Windu in The Bad Batch. It’s tough to say whether this information will be concluded in this series, but the timeline does occur right after Mace gets his hand severed by Anakin. The bigger question though is if Mace does appear, will he be played by the one and only Samuel L Jackson?
8 There’s A Quick Reference To The Movie Rogue One
The ability of the new Star Wars series to tie in overlooked aspects of the overall canon makes it very satisfying to viewers. In the 2016 film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor find the Empire’s top-secret plans, one of them being “War Mantle.” In the third episode of Bad Batch, Tarkin introduces Project War Mantle which uses conscripted recruits instead of clones. Tarkin puts them to a test under Crosshair’s supervision, which they ultimately pass. But this very little nugget from Rogue One shows how complex this galaxy can actually be.
7 The Bad Batch Will Introduce A New Clone
The character that stole the show of the first episode was arguably Omega, a clone who’s a young girl and very special to the Kaminoans. The biggest plot point of the show is having Clone Force 99 adopt her as one of their own.
While it doesn’t seem like a huge deal, some writers feel that Omega’s introduction will change the Star Wars universe indefinitely because it will bring about a new series of clones. Whether or not Omega brings monumental change the canon, her addition does make the story arc captivating.
6 The Series Debuts a Young Kanan Jarrus, (Changes His Origin)
The emotional first episode of Bad Batch finds a young Jedi named Caleb escaping death after the infamous Order 66 is executed by Palpatine. The boy will later grow up to become a fugitive renamed Kanan Jarrus, who learns the art of being a smuggler. Star Wars fanatics noticed that there are slight differences between the origin of Kanan in Bad Batch as opposed to his origin in the comics. Both times his mentor Depa gets killed but in the comics, Caleb fights back with her while in the show, she implores him to run while Hunter and Crosshair chase him down. Even this slight change may show unique plot points for Kanan in the future.
5 The Series Sets Up The Appearance Of Chain Codes
The Empire is known for its insidious plans and weapons that terrorize the galaxy. The Bad Batch establishes a weapon that may even be more terrifying than the Death Star. In the second episode, the crew strives to help clone deserter Cut Lawquane escape off of Saleucami. When asked how to get off the planet, Hunter and Cut were informed that they need chain codes to leave. Hunter remarked that this was a mass registration push by the Empire. It’s worth stating that while chain codes don’t blow up planets like the Death Star, they’re just as dangerous.
4 Fennec Shand Made Her Debut In The Mandalorian
The newest episode of the series should be a pleasant surprise with the knowledge of the live-action show The Mandalorian. For those that don’t know, Fennec Shand, the bounty hunter that was hired to captured Omega, appeared in the popular Star Wars live-action series.
The tie-in is compelling to see the character’s backstory years before the events in The Mandalorian. Based on the ending of the last episode, Omega and Clone force 99 haven’t seen the last of Fennec.
3 The Series Finale Made the Composer Cry
The force is known to bring out strong emotions in all Star Wars enthusiasts. But the series composer Kevin Kiner tweeted out the working on the finale caused him to “start crying.” Many theorized that Kiner was referring to how hard he was working on the finale may have caused undue stressed, and made a tongue-in-cheek joke about bursting into tears. But Kiner worked with Lucas on The Clone War series so he’s not an amateur in this field. Could it be possible the finale is so gut-wrenching that it will make the audience burst into tears?
2 Dee Bradley Baker, Voice of The Bad Batch, Was Olmec In Legends Of The Hidden Temple
Dee Bradley Baker has a distinguished career as a voice-over actor (some would say legendary). Baker has provided voices for tons of shows such as SpongeBob Square Pants, American Dad!, The Clone Wars, and the entirety of Clone Force 99 on Bad Batch. But what’s pretty unknown is that one of his first jobs was providing voice-over work for the hit Nickelodeon series Legends of the Hidden Temple. Baker served as the announcer on the show and also served as the rock god Olmec. Maybe Baker will have more work seeing as how an adult reboot of Hidden Temple is coming up.
1 Dave Filoni Announced The Bad Batch Could’ve Been Another Season Of The Clone Wars
Dave Filoni, Clone Wars alum and creator of The Bad Batch, announced in 2018 that The Clone Wars would have a final season with a focus on clones with genetic mutations. The episodes of The Bad Batch were story reels from the earlier seasons of The Clone Wars with George Lucas having a say in the planning. It’s possible to watch the adventures of Clone Force 99 as an extension of Clone Wars. But in the end, what was supposed to be a final season of the original beloved 3D animation series turned out to be its entirely own thing.
