Microsoft’s Xbox has remedied an exploit that allowed players to obtain subscriptions to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for a lower price, according to its official support page.
The change, as reported by VG247, would allow players to obtain one year of EA Play at $30, which could then be exchanged for four months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, giving players the ability to decrease the price of the pass by half by purchasing an EA Play subscription. The service normally costs those subscribed $15 per month, and the updated subscription price for EA Play reflects this — with the one year subscription being converted to two months of Game Pass Ultimate, matching the normal price point. The change, while potentially disheartening to those who had accessed the service this way, remains necessary for Microsoft’s financial assets.

“Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members can redeem EA Play codes for the Xbox console, but they will automatically convert and extend their Game Pass Ultimate subscription,” reads the FAQ. “One month of EA Play will extend a Game Pass Ultimate subscription by 10 days, and a one-year EA Play code will extend a Game Pass Ultimate subscription by 2 months.”
No announcements have been made regarding whether or not the previously redeemed codes would continue to provide the one-year subscription for players or if the subscriptions will revert to reflect the change, though it can be assumed that if the codes have been redeemed prior to the change, they’ll continue to reflect the exploit’s original terms. Subscribers are still able to convert EA Play memberships at the normal rate, and Xbox continues to offer incentives to new subscribers — such as a three-month subscription for only $1 to test the service out.
