Sony Pictures’ adaptation of the children’s book Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile is taking shape and now has Hit-Monkey creators attached as directors.
Deadline has reported Will Speck and Josh Gordon will direct the upcoming film adaptation. They will also serve as producers alongside Hutch Parker. The film is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 22, 2022.
Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile was written by Bernard Waber and published in 1965 and is the second in the Lyle Crocodile series. The book sees Lyle thrown into a zoo after scaring his neighbor’s cat. Lyle is freed by an old performing partner and makes amends with his neighbor, Mr. Grumps, after saving him from a fire.
Speck and Gordon are currently working on the Marvel and Hulu series Hit-Monkey, for which they serve as both creators and executive producers. The upcoming series is based on Marvel’s comic book of the same name. The comic centers on a Japanese macaque that learns deadly skills from watching an assassin taken in by the macaque’s clan of warriors. The macacque is banished and eventually watches his clan be destroyed. He avenges his clan and goes on to hunt all assassins, thus becoming Hit-Monkey.
