One Piece: Devil Fruit Powers That’d Be Useful in Real Life | CBR

The Devil Fruits are the most prized and mysterious objects in the One Piece universe, often being fought over or bought for eye-watering price tags. The reason for this is simple: anyone who consumes a Devil Fruit gains superhuman abilities, instantly making them into a formidable foe. However, in exchange for this power, the consumer loses their ability to swim, which is a massive downside in a world where pirates reign.

Each of the Devil Fruits imbues the consumer with a different ability. While some of these abilities are only useful for pirates, quite a few of them would make life way easier in the real world. But which Devil Fruit would be the best to have in your lunchbox?

Heal-Heal Fruit

One Piece 1

The Heal-Heal Fruit is a Paramecia-type — as in, grants superhuman abilities — Devil Fruit that causes the user to secrete a special liquid via their tears or water summoned from their hands. This water can heal physical wounds of all kinds, quickly restoring someone to perfect health. On top of this, the Dandelixirs technique allows the user to grow flowers that aid the healing and temporarily stabilize people in a large area.

This fruit has a lot of obvious medical uses. The ability to generate healing and life-saving medicine wherever you are is super handy. This Devil Fruit turns the user into a walking first-aid kit. No matter the issue, they can quickly deliver medical aid to those in need without the need for equipment.

Flower-Flower Fruit

One Piece 2

Famously used by Nico Robin, the Flower-Flower fruit is another Paramecia-type Devil Fruit. This fruit allows the user to grow duplicate parts of their body from any surface, be it an object or person. These limbs can be controlled by the user just like normal limbs. Nico has often grown new limbs on her own body, allowing her to have extra arms when needed.

This fruit would undoubtedly be helpful in day-to-day life, as we all need an extra set of arms sometimes. Imagine how much easier it would be to carry the groceries if you could grow extra arms on your back. Or, for those of us who can’t put down social media, make a third arm on your shoulder, so you can hold your phone while using your original hands for other tasks. The ability to grow limbs on any surface means you could also operate things from a distance, which would be great in the kitchen. Why stand over a pot when you can spout an arm from the wall and have that stir while you go somewhere else? The possibilities are endless!

Munch-Munch Fruit

One Piece 3

Used by “Tin-Plate” Wapol, the Munch-Munch Fruit resembles a pair of snapping jaws. Fittingly, someone who eats a Munch-Munch Fruit gains the ability to eat anything, even things that would usually be poisonous or harmful. As a bonus, the user can change their form based on the objects consumed, as well as being able to combine and then regurgitate the things they’ve recently swallowed.

This ability would cut down on food costs as, while it does make you more hungry, it lets you eat anything you find lying around, no matter how weird or huge it is. Also, the ability to combine objects would allow you to quickly and easily make any object you could need. No more trying to find that thing you lost. Just make a new one — throwing up your new item is quicker than waiting for the same thing to be delivered, provided you can overcome the ick factor.

Bubble-Bubble Fruit

One Piece 4

The Bubble-Bubble fruit allows the user to produce soap bubbles that they can then control. While these bubbles can clean, their main power is washing away foe’s abilities, rendering them utterly helpless. Something that’s especially useful when fighting other Devil Fruit users. Your enemy can remove this effect by washing up in water. However, this forces someone to stop fighting to help them or forces them to retreat and regain their powers.

Of course, in the real world, we rarely have to deal with magical pirates. But those of us in the real world do have to deal with grime, and the ability to fire soap bubbles at things would make cleaning a breeze. No longer would you need to stretch for those hard-to-reach corners. Just aim and fire! And on top of this, you wouldn’t have to pay for detergent anymore, which would save you a lot of money over time and free up cupboard space for more important things.

Gum-Gum Fruit

One Piece 5

The Gum-Gum fruit is the most famous Devil Fruit in the One Piece franchise, being the signature fruit of series hero Monkey D. Luffy. This fruit gives the user’s body the properties of rubber, allowing them to stretch their limbs in any way they wish. This ability also extends to their bones and organs, allowing users to alter their physiology for different effects and benefits. This rubbery ability also lets the user survive harsh impacts and electric shocks due to rubber’s insulating properties.

Luffy regularly shows how versatile this power can be. Being able to stretch would allow you to reach objects that are far away from you, something that would be useful if you don’t want to get off the couch. Elastic momentum would also be excellent, as it would allow you to move around at high speeds as well as letting you throw yourself over obstacles. It would be possible to use the momentum and stretching to swing around the city like a slightly horrific Spider-Man. It would also make home repair much easier as you wouldn’t need to worry about getting shocked by a stray wire.
