Justice League Reveals Lobo Is Strong Enough to KILL the New Gods

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Justice League: Last Ride #1 by Chip Zdarsky, Miguel Mendonca, Enrica Angiolini, & Andworld Design, on sale now.

The Justice League of Justice League: Last Ride has been dealing with a surprisingly splintered universe. With the League seemingly on the verge of internal collapse due to the lingering stresses caused by the death of Martian Manhunter seemingly during a Crisis-level event and the near-collapse of the Green Lantern Corps, the universe has been dealing with the resulting power vacuum.

This includes the United Planets working with the remnants of the Green Lantern Corps to try and protect the universe. This includes installing real justice on the universe, no matter how powerful certain powerhouses can be — if they commit a galactic crime, then they need to face justice.

This extends to Lobo, who’s one of DC’s most powerful and deadly figures. An intergalactic mercenary, Lobo has killed plenty of dangerous figures over the years, with few limits on what kind of beings he would attack. That appears to include some otherwise powerful beings, like the New Gods. Captured and contained by the remaining Green Lanterns (including Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Jessica Cruz, and Kilowag), Lobo is unrepentant in his seemingly apparent slaughter of the New Gods.

The New Gods have long been some of DC’s most powerful forces, standing far above the power levels of even figures such as Superman and Wonder Woman. There are few figures within the DC Universe who could even pose a threat to the New Gods. But Lobo’s sheer survivability and intense healing factor could allow him to overcome pretty much everything. He’s demonstrated this as recently as Dark Nights: Death Metal, when he able to overcome the power of the 5th-Dimensional Imps with ease and survive the onslaught thrown his way by the Darkest Knight while helping save all of creation alongside Wonder Woman.

With anyone else, the New Gods would have likely wiped out their enemy. But thanks to his unique Czarnians powers, it appears that Lobo was able to overcome them. It’s possible his healing factor — which is so strong it can even produce copies of himself from a single drop of blood — allowed him to even overwhelm the New Gods. But the battle may have been exhausting for Lobo, as he was promptly captured. In the fallout of his actions, it seems that Lobo will be brought to face galactic justice, with the United Planets trying to make an example out of the mercenary. To contain him, the Justice League and the Green Lanterns have decided to contain him on the ruins of Apokolips, the home to the dark New Gods of the Fourth World.

It seems that in this reality, Apokolips will become their universe’s most powerful prison. But given his recent actions, it’s debatable that even this fallen world will be enough to contain the mercenary. It’s possible that this can only slow Lobo down — and that it’s only a matter of time before he escapes back into the wild universe.
