Sanji was the chef for the Straw Hat pirates and one of the first characters to join Luffy’s crew in the One Piece universe. Despite his culinary responsibilities, he has shown an aptitude for contributing to the ship’s success just as much as his rival, Roronoa Zoro.
There have been dozens of instances where the heroes may have died or would have otherwise been significantly deterred without his help. By identifying how Vinsmoke has come to his comrades’ aid, we can better appreciate the positive ways in which his chivalry manifests.
10 Sanji Posed As Mr. Three To Learn More About Crocodile
During the expedition in Little Garden, Sanji stumbled upon the wax house Mr. Three had made and the transponder snail inside. Intrigued by the ringing phone, he picked it up and posed as its owner.
This would allow him to learn more about the clandestine Baroque Works organization and relay what information he found to the other Straw Hat pirates. Moreover, it further prevented Galdino from receiving another chance from Crocodile and continuing to pose a threat to the heroes when the Alabasta arc began.
9 Sanji Was The Only Person Capable Of Defeating Kuroobi
During the attack on Arlong Park, Sanji was the only person capable of defeating Kuroobi. Zoro was already past his limit after Hatchan’s defeat, Usopp was no match for such a dauntless fighter, and Luffy was still at the bottom of the sea.
After being dragged beneath the water where his kicks could not deal as much damage, Sanji covered the fish man’s gills so that he couldn’t breathe either. This forced both combatants to resurface. On even terrain, the Straw Hat chef defeated his aquatic adversary comfortably.
8 Sanji Helped Luffy Take Nami To Kureha
After Nami was afflicted with a debilitating sickness that only became progressively worse, she was taken to Drum Island in hopes of finding a doctor. Since Wapol had banished every medic that he could find, they were forced to trek up a steep mountain in hopes of meeting the legendary Kureha.
Luffy and Sanji made the journey together, with the latter protecting the former from the massive killer rabbits that pursued them. Though Monkey could have defeated them regardless, continuing to fight would have placed Nami at significantly greater risk than she was already in.
7 Sanji Saved Usopp From Eneru
When Nami attempted to collect a charred Usopp from Eneru, he pushed the sniper’s hand down so that she couldn’t reach him. Heroically, Sanji kicked the man onto the navigator’s bike, facilitating both heroes’ escape.
Considering that the chef was already seriously injured by his godlike opponent’s unbridled electricity, this was a tremendous act of heroism and selflessness. As expected, Eneru did not take kindly to his interference. However, since he passed out immediately afterward, he was spared from suffering potentially fatal retribution for how he had meddled in the lord of Skypiea’s plans.
6 Sanji Made An Ally In Duval After Defeating Him
After defeating Duval, Sanji made a valuable ally in him. Grateful for his facial rearrangement and instilled with a newfound sense of confidence, the former crime boss assisted the Straw Hats in preventing the human auction on the Sabaody Archipelago.
Were it not for the connection the chef made, the heroes never would have arrived in time to save Camie from Charloss and the equally infamous Celestial Dragons. In this regard, Sanji prevented an extremely dark atrocity from having ever unfolded.
5 Sanji Defeated Ramen Kenpo & Allowed His Allies To Move On Without Him
Ramen Kenpo was CP9’s chef and a man who could command the noodles he created from his nose like an extension of his body. Possessing superhuman agility, he proved an elusive target for Franky and Usopp to contend with.
In order to save Robin, Sanji volunteered to stay behind and contend with the dwarf himself. By using nearby kitchen knives, he sliced the villain’s noodle monstrosity to pieces, forcing him to resume the fight on even terms. As fast as Kenpo may have been, his skills and brawn paled in comparison to that of the Straw Hat chef’s.
4 Sanji Put Aside His Differences With Zoro To Defeat Foxy’s Team
When Luffy unwittingly challenged Foxy and his pirates to a Davy Back Fight, Zoro and Sanji were forced to work together against a team of brutes. The ruffians had numerous advantages, including a biased referee and the weapons they snuck onto the field.
Although the rivalry between chef and swordsman proved insurmountable at first, Nami’s encouragement enabled them to put aside their differences and save the day. Were it not for their synergy, the Straw Hats would have lost another crew member.
3 Sanji Defeated The Powerful Mr. Two In Alabasta
Mr. Two had already caused significant chaos in Alabasta by the time he was confronted. Through posing as its king and having state troopers open fire on civilians, he was able to exacerbate the already high tensions between the loyalists and the rebels.
Bon Clay also viciously pursued Vivi and would have captured her if not for Sanji’s intervention. Though the villain’s ability to change faces with Nami proved advantageous, the chef was able to outsmart and defeat him with a pulverizing kick.
2 Sanji Saved Usopp From Jabra
With Kaku preventing Zoro from defending his allies, Usopp was left vulnerable to Jabra’s attack. The wolf-man viciously mauled him and would have claimed his life if Sanji didn’t lunge into the fray, having recently recovered from his defeat at Kalifa’s hands.
Though Jabra’s iron body still proved a problematic obstacle, Sanji devised a way to overcome it. By concentrating so much force into his feet that it literally caught on fire, he was able to pummel the conniving villain into the concrete, effectively defeating him and allowing both Usopp and Nami to escape in the process.
1 Sanji Convinced Gin To Save Luffy From Don Krieg
After feeding Gin and saving his life, Sanji won his allegiance in the battle against Don Krieg. For his selflessness, the mace-wielding mauler gave both Luffy and Sanji gas masks to avoid his master’s impending poison bomb.
Despite this, he was wrought with guilt for betraying his own crew and was willing to endure whatever punitive actions were taken against him. Regardless, were it not for Sanji’s kindness, Luffy likely would have succumbed to Krieg’s poison and died on the Baratie before the marauders claimed the ship as their own.
