WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Bad Batch Episode 3, “Replacements,” streaming now on Disney+.
Clone Force 99’s desperate escape from the Empire is already beginning to take its toll in The Bad Batch. At the beginning of “Replacements,” it is clear that the team is struggling as they figure out how to survive on the run. Amidst these struggles, they are also adapting to accommodating a child on their journey. While Wrecker at first seems to be paying the least attention to Omega and her needs, by the end of the episode, he creates a room for Omega, proving that he is more intuitive than his brothers when finding solutions to make her more welcome.

At first, Omega just seems happy to be with the team. She finds her own places to relax with the power droid, though Hunter notes that it does not look comfortable for either Omega or the droid. Omega also readily offers her food to Wrecker when he complains about the small ration portions. While these actions show Omega’s kindness, they also show that she is struggling with taking up space and acknowledging that her own needs are important, too.
Wrecker seems to not really notice how being on the team is affecting Omega. At the beginning of the episode, Wrecker almost accepts Omega’s rations when she offers them to him, but he immediately refuses after Hunter points out that Omega does not even have a place to sleep. When the ship is crash landing, he originally panics, but he immediately tempers his fear once he realizes that Omega is scared, too. Thus, while Wrecker may not be the first to notice when someone else is struggling, once their struggles are pointed out to him, he immediately acts on this knowledge to try to protect them.
While Wrecker may at first seem to be struggling with Omega, The Bad Batch episode proves he has more insight than the rest of his team on how to make her feel welcome. Due to an injury during the team’s crash landing, Wrecker stays behind while the team tries to recover a part of their ship stolen by an Ordo Moon Dragon. Tech and Echo also stay with the ship for repairs, and Hunter and Omega leave to search for the dragon. However, Wrecker’s actions while they are away are a mystery.
At the end of the episode, Wrecker reveals what he worked on while the others were away: he has created a room for Omega on board the ship. It is clear that Wrecker did his best to make the nook feel cozy. The room also has an amazing view of the stars that captivated Omega so much when the team first escaped Kamino. There are curtains on the windows to allow Omega to choose how open the viewport windows are. He also includes a sheet used as a door to give Omega some privacy. Wrecker also gifts Lula, his stuffed Tooka, to Omega. This gift is particularly meaningful because the premiere made it clear how attached Wrecker is to Lula.
Overall, Omega’s new space is a child’s dream nook, and she gleefully thanks Wrecker. While the creation of the room shows Wrecker’s kind heart and his unacknowledged intuitiveness, the action also shows that Omega is becoming more integrated into the team. In return, she is gaining new freedoms and the ability to have her own space in the world.
Created by Dave Filoni, Star Wars: The Bad Batch stars Dee Bradley Baker, Michelle Ang, Andrew Kishino and Ming-Na Wen. A new episode debuts each Friday on Disney+.
