Comics are known for their heroes but when it comes right down to it, the villains are often way more important. Without them, there would be nothing to fight and the stories wouldn’t be nearly as exciting. The villains of Marvel and DC are truly some of the best in modern fiction and would work in a variety of settings and story types. One place many of them would shine is in horror movies.
From demonic overlords to Lovecraftian horrors to monstrous serial killers, comic villains could spice up the horror movie genre in a lot of ways, bringing a lot of fun, new characters to the table.
10 Solomon Grundy Is What Would Happen If Zombies Were Actually Scary
Zombies are pretty much the most ridiculous movie monsters of them all- slow, shambling mounds of decaying flesh that only win because of numbers and the stupidity of those they’re after. However, what if the zombie in question was strong enough to fight it out with Superman? What if it was faster than a normal person and always resurrected?
Solomon Grundy is all of those things and while he isn’t a genius, he’s also smarter than the vast majority of zombies. A zombie movie starring Grundy as the antagonist would be a different kind of zombie film, as the implacable gray avatar of death relentlessly hunted down his quarry.
9 Carnage Was Born To Be A Slasher Movie Villain
Carnage is easily Spider-Man’s scariest foe. Unlike some of the others, he’s not in it for the money or the power- he just wants to kill as many people as possible and his symbiote allows him the ability to do this with ease and survive just about any assault.
Carnage in a slasher movie would be nothing short of brilliant. The number of amazing kills he could get with his symbiote would put Jason or Michael Myers to shame and his sadism would make Freddy Krueger look pedestrian. A Carnage horror movie would be amazing.
8 Scarecrow Is All About Fear
Scarecrow’s entire MO is using fear to his advantage, so putting him in a genre that is all about fear is a match made in heaven. It makes a lot more sense to use him in a horror movie than it does in a superhero movie; the biggest highlight of movie Scarecrow was just the fact he was played by Cillian Murphy. Other than that, he was sort of wasted in Batman Begins.
Scarecrow using his fear gas on unsuspecting college students, though, getting them to face their fears or die trying is a much better use for the villain, one where he would excel in ways he wouldn’t be able to in a straight-up superhero movie.
7 Sabretooth Is A Serial Killing Sadist Who Can’t Die
Sabretooth is another villain that is perfect for a slasher film. This is a guy whose favorite pastime is thinking up new ways to torment Wolverine, can’t be killed, and is stronger and faster than any normal human could ever be. The fact that he hasn’t been used in a slasher film yet is a loss to the genre.
There are so many factors that make ol’ Victor Creed the perfect horror movie villain. He loves to kill, keeps coming no matter what happens to him, and he’s full of sadistic quips. Slashing up everyone in his way and making jokes about it is what he does for fun, so putting him in a movie doing that would be gold.
6 Vandal Savage Is An Immortal Neanderthal With A Taste For Human Flesh
There are few immortals in comics more dangerous than Vandal Savage and while he likes to dress like an 18th-century gentleman, his last name tells one everything they need to know about him. Vandal Savage isn’t above committing terribly grisly acts just because he feels like it; to him, someone who has lived for millennia, human life is cheap.
Vandal Savage also enjoys dining on human flesh. Combine all of his traits together and one can have an erudite villain like Hannibal Lector but one who can drop into frightening rages in a moment, hunting down his foes and feasting on them.
5 Gorilla Grodd Would Prove To Be The Most Frightening Primate Ever
King Kong is kind of scary but what would really be frightening is another kind of villainous gorilla. Gorilla Grodd can’t wreck buildings like Kong; he’s more of a personal threat, a savage monster with a fiendish intelligence that rivals most human geniuses. On top of that, his telepathy allows him a weapon against his targets that would make him almost impossible to stop.
Grodd would make a great horror movie villain. He’s strong, smart, and savage, with his telepathy giving him an extra dimension to his threat that most horror villains just don’t have. Few could match Grodd’s savagery or power.
4 Baron Mordo’s Magical Might Makes Him A Perfect Horror Villain
Baron Mordo’s vast mystical power makes him one of Doctor Strange’s greatest foes. This magical predilection would also make him a perfect horror movie villain. Mordo is not only a personal threat to anyone he comes across, but his abilities to play with the minds of the unwary and summon demons gives him all kinds of options to bring death.
Mordo would be a great end villain of a horror movie. Using his powers to put himself at the center of a web of death would be the perfect way to use him, a mystery villain manipulating the events for his own fiendish gain.
3 Starro Would Make A Great Lovecraftian Threat
Lovecraftian horror is all about the insignificance of humanity in the face of the cosmic. The horror comes from the loss of identity and the way the ancient monsters consume every human portion of their victims, leaving behind a husk they can puppeteer. Starro is perfect for that kind of horror movie, as its whole thing is taking control of its victims and using them to conquer.
Starro also shares something more in common with Cthulhu, as both have a whole sea life motif going on. Starro may seem kind of lame, but it’s perfect for the kind of the Lovecraftian horror movie that is rarely seen but needed to reinvigorate the genre.
2 Mephisto Is A Demonic Overlord All About Tempting The Innocent And Destroying Them
Mephisto is one of the Marvel Universe’s Satan stand-ins, but that isn’t all that makes him perfect horror movie fodder. What really makes him a wonderful horror movie villain is his proclivity to offer terrible deals to those who cross his path, trying to take the souls of the pure. This opens up a whole can of worms that would be perfect for a horror movie
Besides that, Mephisto is the lord of a Hell-like realm full of demonic horrors, which is yet another avenue a Mephisto-based horror movie could take. The possibilities for him as a horror movie villain are vast.
1 The Joker Would Make An Amazing Horror Movie Villain
The Joker has proven to be the perfect cinematic movie villain. Sure, Loki and Magneto have appeared in more movies, but the Joker is the only comic character whose actors were awarded with Academy Awards. He’s also the only villain to ever star in his movie and he’s pretty much perfect for a horror movie.
The Joker has always been tailor-made for horror tales, as his brand of nihilistic bloodshed is perfect for a horror movie. On top of that, he has the perfect look for it. A Joker horror movie would be amazing and it’s also the most likely to happen as Warner Brothers loves to pull out the Joker as much as possible.
