Dragon Ball Super: 10 Characters The Upcoming Movie Could Make Canon

Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball Super is the latest series in his iconic Dragon Ball franchise and it’s become a very satisfying extension to the universe that he’s built. Dragon Ball Super has celebrated an anime, manga, and a feature film, but the recent announcement of another Dragon Ball Super movie in 2022 has many speculating what or who it might include.

Dragon Ball Super: Broly brings popular Dragon Ball Z movie villain, Broly, officially into the canon and if this upcoming movie takes a similar approach then there are some very interesting characters that would benefit from similar treatment. This new movie is a great opportunity for Dragon Ball Super to bring in some familiar faces.

10 Frieza’s Brother, Cooler, Has Been Fighting To Get Into The Canon For Years

Broly is the most popular villain out of Dragon Ball Z’s movies since three separate films are dedicated to the character, but Cooler receives a comparable level of attention across two movies. However, Cooler has become a frequent character in Dragon Ball’s video games and the Super Dragon Ball Heroes anime continues to experiment with the character.

There’s actually a viable reason to bring Frieza’s brother, Cooler, into the fray, since Frieza is alive again in Dragon Ball and now has more enemies than ever.

9 Bojack Becomes A Strong Foe For Gohan During Goku’s Absence

Anime DBZ Film Bojack Unbound Bojack With Gang

The ninth Dragon Ball Z movie, Bojack Unbound, is a rare exception for the franchise since it’s set during Goku’s time in the afterlife following his death in the Cell Saga. This allows Gohan to be the dominant hero in the movie and it turns into some particularly thrilling material between Bojack and his competent team of space pirates.

Bringing Bojack and his soldiers into the canon could be a great chance for another Gohan-centric movie that gives his character the necessary development that he’s lacked for a while.

8 The Heroes Could Gain A Helpful Galactic Ally With Tapion

Anime Dragon Ball Z Tapion Unsheathes Sword

The 13th Dragon Ball Z movie, Wrath of the Dragon, features one of the biggest threats that the heroes have faced, but it also brings in some displaced heroes in the form of Tapion and Minotia. These stoic warriors hold the key to the taming of Hirudegarn, but are also accomplished sword fighters in their own right.

Tapion feels like he could be a natural helper to someone like Jaco and assist with the Galactic Patrol. Tapion could also form a bond with Trunks and the character could finally gain his sword in Dragon Ball Super.

7 More Androids Could Become A Fascinating Wild Card For The Characters

Killer Androids have become a popular well for Dragon Ball Z to draw from and even recent video games have introduced unique takes on missing or new Androids, like Android 21. Androids 13, 14, and 15 are a fun, if not disposable trio from the seventh Dragon Ball Z movie. These Androids can also fuse together to make Super 13, which is a creative enough premise.

Now might be the perfect time to properly introduce these Androids into the canon since Androids 17 and 18 are now entrenched in the cast and would have a personal connection to these enemies.

6 Janemba’s Transformation & Powers Hold Tremendous Potential

Janemba looks absolutely terrifying in his final form and is more intimidating than Dabura, who is supposed to be the King of Demons. New and more powerful versions of Janemba have appeared in Super Dragon Ball Heroes, but it’s time that he properly shows up in Dragon Ball Super.

Janemba is what marks the first appearance of Gogeta, so it’d be satisfying if Janemba’s return could somehow riff on this idea with a more powerful take on the character. There’s also been more time spent in the afterlife so it even makes sense that Janemba could be worked into canon.

5 Turles Is Due For Another Shot That Adds More Depth To His Character

Anime Dragon Ball Z Turles Artificial Power Ball Gohan

Turles is a compelling Dragon Ball Z movie villain due to how he’s an evil Saiyan that looks nearly identical to Goku, yet bears no relation to him. The idea behind Turles has essentially been topped with Dragon Ball Super’s Goku Black arc, but a new movie could turn Turles into a reluctant ally instead of another misguided enemy.

Dragon Ball Super has done some exciting things with Saiyans and a refreshing take on the character would be if Universe 6 has a Turles that becomes a part of Cabba, Kale, and Caulifla’s crew.

4 Dr. Kochin Is A Brilliant Mind That Could Help The Heroes Instead Of Hurt Them

The second Dragon Ball Z movie, The World’s Strongest, features Dr. Wheelo as its ultimate enemy, but it’s Dr. Kochin that’s the brilliant mad scientist that makes Wheelo’s persistent villainy possible.

Dr. Kochin also crafts the trio of Bio-Men that fights the heroes and he’s performed extensive elective surgeries on himself. Dr. Kochin is an enemy in Dragon Ball Z, but Super could turn him into an ally that the heroes use and treat like a bizarro version of Dr. Gero. The two scientists could even feud against each other.

3 Hirudegarn Is A Threat On The Scale Of The Pride Troopers

Wrath of the Dragon feels like quite the epic Dragon Ball Z movie since the threat, Hirudegarn, is basically a galactic Godzilla that plagues the world. Goku turns to some Super Saiyan 3 theatrics to vanquish Hirudegarn, but the series’ scope is now big enough to entertain more exciting alternatives.

Hirudegarn would be the perfect target for Universe 11’s Pride Troopers or even the Galactic Patrol. Hirudegarn could bring these players into the mix, only for Goku and the rest of Universe 7 to eventually be needed.

2 Dragon Ball Super Would Benefit From Another Namekian Like Lord Slug

Dragon Ball Super’s Tournament of Power introduces some new Namekians that act as temporary obstacles, but the series could still go a lot further in this department and the powerful species still feel like an afterthought.

Lord Slug doesn’t have the best reputation out of the Dragon Ball Z movies, which is all the more reason to properly execute this story in Dragon Ball Super. This could turn into an emotional struggle for Piccolo and the series could turn to different solutions than the standard Super Saiyan strategies.

1 Cooler’s Armored Squadron Could Become Interesting Obstacles For Frieza

Dragon Ball Z Cooler's Armored Squadron Attack Header

Cooler is a powerful villain, but Cooler’s Revenge also introduces his team of skilled fighters, Saiza, Neizu, and Doore. Cooler’s Armored Squadron feels very familiar to the grunts that are featured within the Frieza Force, but it’s for this reason that they could be added to the series and defy expectations.

These three could infiltrate Frieza’s team, only to later reveal that they’re actually in league with Cooler. There’s a ton of interesting history and animosity between Frieza and his family that is ripe to be explored and these ancillary characters could be the trigger for this.
