It’s Margot Robbie’s Mission to Bring Poison Ivy to the DCEU

The Suicide Squad‘s Margot Robbie says she’s eager to see Harley Quinn’s best friend and love interest, Poison Ivy, appear soon in the DC Extended Universe.

“Trust me, I chew their ear off about it all the time. They must be sick of hearing it, but I’m like, ‘Poison Ivy, Poison Ivy. Come on, let’s do it,'” Robbie told Den of Geek. “I’m very keen to see a Harley-Poison Ivy relationship on screen. It’d be so fun. So I’ll keep pestering them.”

Poison Ivy debuted in DC Comics in Batman #181 as botanist Lillian Rose. However, after the Crisis on Infinite Earths, her origin story was revised and she became Pamela Isley — a botanist who was experimented on by Jason Woodrue and gained abilities to control plant life. However, Ivy’s only live-action film appearance thus far was in 1997’s Batman and Robin, played by Uma Thurman. A variant version of the character appeared in TV’s Gotham.

Robbie concluded, “If you read the comics you know that Poison Ivy and Harley have an intimate relationship. In some comics they convey it as a friendship; in other comics, you can see that they’re actually sexually involved as a couple. I’ve been trying to — I would love to have Poison Ivy thrown into the universe because the Harley and Poison Ivy relationship is one of my favorite aspects of the comics, so I’m looking to explore that on screen.”
