Avengers: Age of Ultron was the first sequel in the blockbuster Avengers franchise that connected the Marvel Cinematic Universe together, and it introduced a few new characters into the shared cinematic universe to further grow the roster of Marvel’s live-action heroes and villains.
Of course, it wasn’t just new characters that appeared in the Joss Whedon-directed movie, as a number of new costumes also debuted thanks to Tony Stark’s need to update his fellow teammates’ tech and style. Let’s explore a few of the best costumes that appeared in 2015’s hit sequel, Avengers: Age of Ultron.
10 Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker’s Hydra Uniform Signified His High Rank
Thomas Kretschmann joined the MCU as Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker in the post-credits scene of Captain America: The Winter Soldier where it was revealed that he was using the energies of the Soul Stone to imbue volunteers like the Maximoff twins with experimental abilities.
Strucker returned in the opening moments of Age of Ultron in a fancy pressed Hydra uniform that referenced his high ranking as a section chief-turned-Hydra leader complete with an updated version of the monocle the devious character is known for in the comics.
9 Stark’s J.A.R.V.I.S.-Controlled Iron Legion Follow Iron Man’s Style
Avengers: Age of Ultron featured a well-equipped team following their formation in the first movie, thanks to Tony Stark’s tireless efforts to outfit The Avengers with the best of the best, which ranged from high-tech headquarters to advanced costumes to an entire fleet of J.A.R.V.I.S.-controlled droids known as the Iron Legion.
The Iron Legion were mass-produced humanoid robots designed in the style of Iron Man though with a reduced profile that was covered with the Avengers logo and mainly used for crowd control and rescue efforts while the Avengers were occupied.
8 Quicksilver’s Costume-Like Workout Gear Suits His Super-Speed
Pietro Maximoff first appeared in a stylized tracksuit that worked fairly well with his image and super-speed powers as well as his darker role as one of Ultron‘s super-powered allies, though he changed his outfit when he made the jump to the Avengers to help save Sokovia and the world.
While his new costume only appeared to be an advanced form of workout wear kept handy at Avengers tower, the colors and striping of the shirt in particular referenced his comic book costume slightly and gave fans a taste of his future as Quicksilver before he met his untimely demise.
7 Hawkeye’s Winter Gear Is Almost Comics-Accurate
While most of the Avengers have received fairly comic-accurate treatment over the years, Clint Barton/Hawkeye’s cinematic suits haven’t showcased his costume look as much as the others, largely because he usually appears in a purple mask and skirted costume.
Avengers: Age of Ultron introduced a new take on Hawkeye’s cinematic costume that referenced the longer cut of his tunic and shaded the costume to his more accurate coloring, though the mask has remained on the comic pages.
6 Scarlet Witch’s First Official Superhero Costume Was Borrowed From Black Widow
When Wanda Maximoff first appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron, she had yet to adopt an actual costume of any kind as she began working against the team with Ultron, though her wardrobe began to change when she and her brother joined with the Avengers.
While she picked up a red leather jacket hand-me-down from Black Widow in the final battle, it was her first costume as an official member of the Avengers that impressed as it doubled down on her crimson color scheme to further tease her future as the Scarlet Witch.
5 Black Widow’s Advanced Stark-Designed Suit Went Well With Her Electric Widow’s Bite Weaponry
Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow first appeared in 2010’s Iron Man 2 as a highly-trained S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, which was reflected by the uniform she wore in both her debut and alongside her new team in The Avengers.
Thankfully Avengers: Age of Ultron gave Black Widow a Stark-upgraded suit that doubled-down on her electric Widow’s Bite weaponry and worked the tech throughout the suit so her tasers worked with the energized batons she used as weapons to further increase her power levels when facing Avengers-level threats.
4 Ultron’s Final Body Required A Stolen Supply Of Vibranium
Tony Stark and Bruce Banner/Hulk created the artificial intelligence known as Ultron using code found within the alien Soul Stone, and the new being promptly turned evil and took over Stark’s Iron Legion before assembling his first body in an abandoned Hydra facility.
However, it was only after Ultron had managed to steal a supply of Vibranium that he was able to create his final body, which was a hulking version of his original look that highlighted the ever-changing form of his body from the comics.
3 Captain America’s New Stark-Designed Suit Was Modified Again Afterward
Black Widow wasn’t the only one whose costume was improved by Stark, as Captain America also received an updated version of the more comic-based red-white-and-blue costume that was attempted in The Avengers.
However, that suit has become a bit of a joke among fans so it was redesigned to follow the looser cut of his The First Avenger costume while following the typical design from the comics which would then be combined with the stealth costume’s designs from The Winter Soldier to become his final Endgame costume.
2 J.A.R.V.I.S.’s New Synthezoid Body As Vision Is Completed With A Cape Inspired By Thor
Age of Ultron introduced one of the biggest changes to the Avengers when Stark’s personal AI known as J.A.R.V.I.S. was chosen as the replacement for Ultron’s original synthezoid body that was created using stolen Vibranium and the powerful Soul Stone in as an advanced process from Dr. Helen Cho.
J.A.R.V.I.S. awoke as a new being and took the name of Vision, and while the connected pieces of his body became his costume, he added an ethereal cape to his look after seeing Thor’s own regal attire.
1 Iron Man’s Satellite-Backed Hulkbuster Armor Was Used To Stop The Hulk’s Rampage
Is it even an MCU film if Iron Man doesn’t get a new suit of armor? Avengers: Age of Ultron pulled this off in a big way by introducing one of Stark’s most powerful armors which was revealed to have been created with the help of Bruce Banner, the Hulkbuster.
The name says it all, as this armor was designed with the sole purpose of dealing with a rampaging Hulk, which meant it was much larger than other suits and came with a satellite-backed armory of additional weaponry and limb attachments, though Hulk still managed to smash most of it to bits.
