The Whedon Cut lives on.
Warner Bros. released a 4K trailer for the 2017 film Justice League . The promo is very similar to the “Official Heroes Trailer” for the movie that was released in October 2017, just one month before its theatrical release.
The 4K trailer is noticeably different from the one for Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and not just in terms of the footage that is featured. The trailer for Whedon’s film is much more upbeat compared to Snyder’s more somber tone.
This difference in tone is just one of the many reasons why fans spent years demanding Warner Bros. #releasethesnydercut. The movement began after the film first premiered in theaters, when reports started circulating that Snyder’s version of the movie had been heavily altered by Warner Bros. and new director Whedon after Snyder had to step down due to a family tragedy. Many blame those two parties for the film’s subpar critical reception and argue that Snyder’s product is far superior and fits more coherently with his previous two films in the DCEU canon: Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
The synopsis for Justice League can be found below:
Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
Directed by Zack Snyder and written by Chris Terrio and Joss Whedon, Justice League stars Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne / Batman, Henry Cavill as Clark Kent / Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Gal Gadot as Diana Prince / Wonder Woman, Ezra Miller as Barry Allen / The Flash, Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry / Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Victor Stone / Cyborg, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, J. K. Simmons as Commissioner James Gordon, Amber Heard as Mera, Joe Morton as Silas Stone and Ciarán Hinds as Steppenwolf. The film is available to stream on HBO Max.
