Most of the cinematic battles in the Attack On Titan universe include giants, whether as allies or (most often) as enemies. The nine titan users are frequently involved, employing their various powers to the best of their ability.
However, it can sometimes be difficult to determine the strength of an individual with so many special (and imbalanced) powers influencing the fight. By identifying the strongest titan users in human form, we can better appreciate the characters’ personal skills and how well they might adapt without the presence of the titans.
9 Frieda Reiss Was Defeated By Grisha Yeager & Has No Formal Training
Though the Founding Titan may be the strongest of the nine, its earliest user was ironically the weakest in human form. She had no formal training as a member of the Reiss family and was defeated soundly by Grisha Yeager.
This shows her complete absence of skill, despite an ability to modify the Eldian collective consciousness to fulfill the wishes of Karl Fritz. If she had been more capable as a brawler, she may have been able to thwart the horrible fate which befell Paradis’ royalty.
8 Pieck Isn’t Used To Fighting As A Human & Is Constantly Lethargic
Pieck has the benefit of Marleyan warrior training, evincing merits as a combatant. However, her torpid mannerisms and incompetence during the battle to defend her home prove how she is best suited as a support fighter.
Additionally, leaving the form of the Cart Titan after several months can create destructive habits, such as walking on all fours even after her body has been reverted to normal. This would result in serious disadvantages if her battle should take place even weeks after completing a mission.
7 Lara Tybur Has Skill, But Minimal Experience
Lara Tybur was the owner of the War Hammer Titan and a naturally gifted combatant. She was capable of fighting Eren despite her inexperience in using her own special powers and would have defeated him if not for the intervention of the Scouts.
However, Lara has no formal training in human form, nor has she depicted any affinity for using weapons (whether guns or ODM gear). To the contrary, her docile life as a humble servant for Willy would make her an easy target, should the woman’s giant alter-ego remain barred from her reach.
6 Zeke Struggled To Pass The Warriors’ Trials
As a child, Zeke Yeager struggled immensely in order to obtain a titan for his parents and become a valuable tool to the nascent revolution in Marley. If not for his connections to Tom Ksaver, he never would have inherited the Beast Titan.
Additionally, Zeke has seldom fought in his ordinary form and retreats whenever he cannot access his special abilities. However, his experience in the Shiganshina and Fort Slava campaigns evince a rudimentary skill in human form if such a desperate situation becomes necessary to guarantee his survival.
5 Porco Was A Naturally Gifted Soldier But Lacks Practical Experience
Porco was initially the candidate selected to become the Armored Titan before Marcel’s chicanery. He was a naturally gifted soldier who performed well in his Warrior Exams and proved to be a valuable asset in the battle to take Fort Slava.
However, he lacks firsthand experience in battle, with Marcel’s sacrifice on his behalf denying him many essential fights he could have learned from to improve his skills. Consequently, he has fallen behind the few individuals who rank higher than him.
4 Armin Was An Intelligent Scout But Lacks Physical Prowess
Armin was an intelligent young man whose decision-making skills and diplomacy were invaluable assets to the Scouts. He was responsible for noticing Annie’s true identity and identifying Reiner’s hiding spot.
However, he is comparatively lacking in physical strength and prowess to many of the series’ other characters. Braun would have killed him if Levi didn’t intervene during the second battle for Shiganshina, and Eren completely humiliated him in a fistfight during the Yeagerist takeover. Additionally, he was almost killed during his first mission when a pure titan nearly ate him.
3 Reiner Has Experience, Durability, & Very High Personal Strength
Reiner may have initially struggled to become the Armored Titan, but he proved himself during the Warriors’ mission to infiltrate the Scouts. He possessed unusually high durability, capable of withstanding Levi’s sword through his throat and Mikasa’s blade buried into his chest.
Reiner’s physical strength is just as abnormally impressive. He was the only character capable not only of lifting a titan over his head in human form but also throwing it. This was how he saved the heroes during the siege of Utgard Castle.
2 Eren Survived Numerous Brushes With Death & Is A Skilled Martial Combatant
Eren has grown immensely since the beginning of the series, having survived numerous brushes with death. He stood his ground against multiple foes at once when defending Armin during their childhood and learned much from Annie Leonhart’s fighting style.
By incorporating the latter, he was capable of dominating Reiner despite the man’s clear advantages in endurance and strength. Considering that they were of equal height in their titan form, it follows that Eren should overwhelm him just as easily as humans.
1 Annie Leonhart Was Skilled Enough To Take Down Eren & Smart Enough To Avoid Levi
Annie Leonhart was just as skilled of a titan as she was a human. The Marleyan agent had no difficulty taking down Eren or Reiner and possessed combat skills that rivaled even Mikasa’s (despite her access to the mysterious Ackerman burst of strength and speed).
Additionally, she was competent enough not only to evade Levi after her defeat in the forest but also every other scout who was pursuing her. Ultimately, Armin was forced to deduce her identity since she safely absconded from titan country without being seen by anyone.
