Clone Wars Star Says Fans Will ‘See Anakin Again’ | CBR

Star Wars: The Clone Wars voice actor Matt Lanter teased Anakin Skywalker’s return to animation.

Lanter spoke to Entertainment Weekly about his role as Skyfox on Netflix’s Jupiter’s Legacy adaptation and was asked about his long-running relationship with Lucasfilm. “There’s some new Lucasfilm Animation going on. I’ve been a part of some things I can’t talk about yet. You’ll see Anakin again,” Lanter teased. “I never quite put Anakin down, whether I’m doing a video game or something new for Lucasfilm Animation.”

Lanter first voiced Anakin for the film Star Wars: The Clone Wars in 2008, which led into the series of the same name. Over the years, he’s returned to voice Anakin in video games and for series like Forces of Destiny and Rebels. He also played a New Republic officer in a Season 1 episode of The Mandalorian.

The actor went on to discuss last year’s return and finale of The Clone Wars after the show had been effectively canceled. “[The series finale] didn’t come as much of a shock as that first time because that first time we felt like we didn’t get to finish,” Lanter said. “Now, we properly got to finish. We got to send off the show in an emotional way in the way that Dave [Filoni, creator of The Clone Wars] wanted to send it off. I actually think it was really cool that it premiered when everyone’s spirits were down [because of the pandemic]. For Star Wars fans, it was exciting to have something new. I think it lifted everyone up a bit.”

While Lanter couldn’t provide any details on what his next Star Wars project will be, it’s clear that whenever Anakin pops up in animated form, he’ll be providing the voice. Star Wars Day, May 4, will see the debut of Filoni’s next animated seriesThe Bad Batch, which takes place not long after Revenge of the Sith and the fall of the Jedi. It’s possible an appearance on the series could be one of the projects Lanter is referring to, though Anakin will be Darth Vader during the show’s timeline. Hayden Christensen, meanwhile, will be returning as Anakin/Vader for the live-action Obi-Wan series on Disney+.

Created by Dave Filoni, Star Wars: The Bad Batch stars Dee Bradley Baker and Ming-Na Wen. The series premieres May 4 on Disney+.
