After the death of his entire clan, Sasuke’s main goal in life is revenge. He is consumed by his desire to avenge the Uchiha and kill his older brother Itachi. He withdraws from society and puts up walls between himself and others.
When he becomes a member of Team 7, he slowly starts to let people in again. He forms strong bonds with his teammates, especially Naruto, and for a time even forgets about his revenge. However, an encounter with his brother Itachi reignites his hatred and leads him away from the Hidden Leaf Village. He spends years on the run, avoiding being captured at all costs.
10 When He Avoids The Recovery Team
When Sasuke deserts the Hidden Leaf Village, he is labeled a rogue ninja. As a promising young shinobi and integral part of Team 7, Sasuke’s return is important to many people. Tsunade charges Shikamaru with forming a task force to retrieve Sasuke.
Naruto and Sasuke’s other friends set out on their mission to retrieve him. They pursue him fiercely and end up fighting the Sound Four. The battles with the Sound Four provide a diversion, allowing Sasuke to avoid being captured.
9 When He Fights With Naruto At The Valley Of The End
Naruto stops Sasuke at the Valley of the End and pleads with him to return to Konoha. Sasuke refuses and the two become engaged in battle. Naruto wants to bring Sasuke back to the Hidden Leaf Village, even if he has to use force.
Sasuke calls upon the power of his curse mark to transform, and Naruto uses Nine-Tails demon fox chakra. The two trade their final blows, Sasuke using his Chidori and Naruto using the Rasengan. Naruto is left unconscious from the encounter and Sasuke escapes continuing to pursue Orochimaru.
8 When Sai Fails To Assassinate Him
Danzo assigns Sai to Team Kakashi as part of his secret plan to assassinate Sasuke. Sai goes to Orochimaru and feigns joining forces with him to defeat Konoha. However, Sai is troubled by his mission to get rid of Sasuke.
Instead, Sai interrogates Sasuke about his relationship with Naruto. Because of Naruto’s feelings towards Sasuke, Sai abandons his assassination attempt and instead focuses on reuniting Naruto and Sasuke.
7 When He Is Confronted by Team 7 At Orochimaru’s Hideout
Sai’s persistent prying into Sasuke’s relationship with Naruto causes Sasuke to attack him. This draws the attention of Naruto, Sakura, and Yamato, who are nearby. Upon seeing Naruto and Sakura again, Sasuke criticizes them for still pursuing him.
Naruto is angered by Sasuke and tries to draw on the power of the Nine-Tails. However, Sasuke enters Naruto’s subconscious and dissipates the Nine-Tails power, then escapes Yamato’s capture and leaves Team 7 behind once again.
6 When He Escapes The Five Kage Summit
While Sasuke is traveling to Konoha to exact his revenge, he is intercepted by Tobi. Tobi tells Sasuke that the Eight-Tails he delivered to the Akatsuki is a fake and the real one will be at the Five Kage Summit, along with Danzo.
Motivated by a desire to avenge his brother, Sasuke travels to the Five Kage Summit. He is confronted by several of the Kage, narrowly escaping the Third Tsuchikage’s attack. He is saved by Tobi’s Kamui and avoids being captured.
5 When He Defeats Danzo
Although Danzo resorts to dishonorable means at times, he is steadfast in his desire to protect Konoha. When Danzo meets Sasuke at Samurai Bridge, he uses his right arm embedded with the eyes of Sharingan to escape death.
In their final attacks, Sasuke uses genjutsu to make Danzo believe he has won. Realizing the trick Danzo grabs Karin as a hostage but Sasuke pierces uses Chidori to piece through Karin, fatally wounding Danzo. As a last-ditch effort, Danzo activates his Reverse Four Symbols Sealing to take Sasuke with him in death, but Sasuke is just out of range of the attack and escapes with Tobi.
4 When He Avoids Being Killed By Kakashi and Sakura
In the aftermath of the battle on Samurai Bridge, Sakura appears in front of Sasuke claiming she has defected from Konoha. To prove her loyalty, Sasuke orders Sakura to finish off Karin. However, as Sakura approaches Karin, Sasuke sneaks up behind her to kill her.
Kakashi intervenes and begins fighting Sasuke. He chastises him for continuing to pursue a path of hate. As they’re fighting Sakura attempts to kill Sasuke herself, but ultimately can’t bring herself to do it. Had Kakashi and Sakura succeeded in subduing him, he would have been taken back to the Hidden Leaf.
3 When He Helps During The Fourth Shinobi War
After Sasuke begins questioning his ideas of what a shinobi and village are, he ultimately decides to protect Konoha. He heads to the battlefield where the Allied Shinobi Forces are embroiled in a battle against the Ten-Tails.
Naruto is the only one who doesn’t question Sasuke’s motives. Sasuke protects Naruto, Sakura, and Kakashi from the Infinite Tsukuyomi, which allows them to defeat Kaguya. Had Konoha not been occupied with the Fourth Shinobi War, Sasuke would have been captured upon his arrival.
2 When He Fights Naruto For The Last Time At The Valley Of The End
Sasuke plans to become the Hokage, but to do this he believes he must sever his bonds with the past and kill Naruto. The two battle it out at the Valley of the End for the last time. The fight costs both of them an arm.
Exhausted and weak, Sasuke asks Naruto why he never gave up on him and continues to fight for him. Sasuke realizes that he still cares for his friends and apologizes to Naruto and Sakura for everything he has put them through. Because of his friendships, he is spared from capture once again.
1 When He Avoids Being Permanently Imprisoned Because of his Efforts During the War
After the Fourth Shinobi War, Sasuke is held in custody. He is kept under the supervision of the Konoha Torture and Interrogation Force, as many questioned his sudden return to Konoha during the War.
However, because of his efforts during the war, and the testimony of Naruto and Kakashi, Sasuke is released. He decides to go on a journey of atonement and silently protects Konoha from a distance. It is because of his new attitude and heroic actions that he is allowed to go free.
