Invincible: Omni-Man Proves His TRUE Power | CBR

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the seventh episode of Invincible “We Need to Talk,” streaming now on Amazon Prime.

For much of Invincible the audience only sees Omni-Man’s power in glimpses, and while those moments are always awe-inspiring, they always leave the viewer wanting more. Talked up as the most powerful hero in the world and shown to be a physical threat even to the entirety of the Guardians of the Globe, we still had yet to see what Omni-Man could truly do.

In the latest episode of Invincible, the hero finally cuts loose, and his startling displays of violence leave us questioning if he is even a hero at all.

The series slowly built toward the reveal of Omni-Man’s inhumanity episode by episode. Though the audience was privy to his battle with the Guardians of the Globe and the lies he pulled thereafter to throw suspicion off himself, he at least had to maintain the appearance of a hero enough that the question constantly remained as to what his true motivations were. But with his wife Deborah and Global Defense Director Cecil Stedman wise to his true nature, Omni-Man drops the fetters and lets loose — and it is devastating.

When he first realizes he is being spied on by Cecil’s people, Omni-Man decimates the task force sent to observe him. Their bullets do nothing to him as he dismembers them brutally, and even when Donald Ferguson sets off a bomb that destroys part of the neighborhood, it barely has an effect on Omni-Man at ground zero. His very movement itself loses its humanity as he floats through the air, no longer walking, and every time he takes off from the ground it is with destructive force that proves he is no longer holding back.

The episode only ramps up his power level from there, showing Omni-Man tanking a satellite laser twice in quick succession with little more than a nosebleed. The same satellite bore through the earth, superheating it in a massive radius with a shockwave that knocked flocks of birds from the sky. But Omni-Man’s only response is to fly to space, destroy the satellite, and continue his search for his son while Cecil attempts to disrupt him at every turn.

Cecil isn’t enough, the souped-up kaiju Cecil sends to stop Omni-Man isn’t enough and even the enraged Immortal back from the dead and desperate for revenge is not enough. The two heroes seem to clash almost evenly as they pummel each other through the sky, but in the end Omni-Man deflects one of Immotal’s blows and runs his arm straight through the Guardian of the Globe’s chest. Immortal tries to gouge out Omni-Man’s eyes, but that gives the caped hero little more than bloodshot eyes as he splits the Immortal in half. Turning to face his son at last, ready to explain himself, the episode ends leaving its audience questioning if anything could be strong enough to stop him.

Thus far, the answer would seem to be “no.” Even the strongest attacks Cecil had available barely left a scratch on Omni-Man, and at one point a whole swarm of Reanimen pummeled him to almost no effect. Those same Reanimen very nearly overwhelmed Invincible himself, and if the government’s most powerful weapons don’t stand a chance, there may not be anything, or anyone else, that can.

The series may be named after Omni-Man’s son, but it appears that he’s the one who is truly invincible.

Invincible stars Steven Yeun, J.K. Simmons, Sandra Oh, Seth Rogen, Gillian Jacobs, Andrew Rannells, Zazie Beetz, Mark Hamill, Walton Goggins, Jason Mantzoukas, Mae Whitman, Chris Diamantopoulos, Melise, Kevin Michael Richardson, Grey Griffin and Max Burkholder. The series is produced by Skybound, and executive produced by Robert Kirkman, Simon Racioppa, David Alpert and Catherine Winder. New episodes are released Fridays on Amazon Prime Video.
