These developments are intended to completely subvert expectations or to make the plot more interesting than it already was. In Shojo, these plot twists usually reveal a character’s hidden identity or a shocking side to a character’s personality that can only be seen in specific circumstances. These stories do an excellent job of catching readers off guard, leaving the days of Tuxedo Mask’s supposed hidden identity far behind.

It was surprising enough to discover that Masaya Aoyama was the Blue Knight, a blond character who would show up to help Mew Ichigo.
In reality, this transformation had been hinting at a much more sinister secret: Masaya was originally the leader of the aliens whose goal was to take over the Earth. In order to blend into with the inhabitants, Deep Blue created the Masaya personality, who would eventually be his downfall.

The main character, Mitsuki Kouyama, was childhood friends with Eichi Sakurai. Eichi eventually confessed to having romantic feelings for her, but Mitsuki soon discovered that he was going to move to America with his adoptive family.
They promise to fulfill their dreams before meeting again. During their time apart Mitsuki would often reflect fondly on their shared memories at the orphanage. It was later revealed to her Shinigami friends that Eichi died a long time ago in a plane crash, but what was more shocking was that Mitsuki knew all along, and never showed it.

Tohru Honda assumed that Akito Sohma, the head of the Sohma family, held the spirit of the Rooster. However, it’s revealed that her role in the Chinese Zodiac is the role of God, something most fans never considered.
It was not only a shocking twist but a twist that made too much sense. It shed a lot of light as to why Akito’s personality was so warped, as she was an arrogant and possessive person who enjoyed tormenting those that she considered to be beneath her.
7 Tsubasa: Both Sakura And Syaoran Were Clones
After following Sakura and Syaoran for most of Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles, fans were shocked to discover that Sakura and Syaoran were clones. If that wasn’t surprising enough, these two would eventually go on to become the parents of the real Syaoran Li as a result of a time paradox.
Many found it romantic that the two would fall in love no matter what circumstances they were in, but it was still strange to discover that Syaoran’s father was his clone.

Although afraid of vampires deep down, she had a close relationship with Kaname. When it was revealed that she was actually a pureblood vampire, it was also revealed that they were brother and sister.

Amu Hinamori is one of the characters tasked with purifying X-Eggs. Guardian Eggs are found in the heart of every child and contain their potential and dreams. When a child is burdened with self-doubt or gives up on their dreams, the egg becomes corrupted.
Amu was initially excited when she discovered her fourth Guardian Egg, but after having a rough day, fans found that even Amu’s eggs weren’t immune to getting corrupted.
4 Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne: Finn Was A Fallen Angel
Maron Kusakabe spent her time catching demons, receiving support from Finn Fish, a semi-angel who was seemingly her closest friend. Maron managed to collect a large number of sealed demons, and allows Finn to deliver them to God.
After this point, she realized that Finn was working for the Devil. This betrayal happened in both the manga and the anime versions, but Finn’s fate at the end is different in both.
3 Fushigi Yuugi: The Mysterious Play: Yui Hongo Became A Villain
Yui Hongo and Miaka Yuki were best friends. When Miaka was sucked back into the world of a magical book, Yui was supporting her as best as she could from the outside. Miaka eventually was able to return to the real world, but Yui took her place inside the book.
As soon as Miaka realized this, she immediately went back inside. Yui was overjoyed when Miaka came for her, but eventually overhead Miaka telling Tamahome that she returned to the book for his sake. She felt betrayed as a result.

Sana Kurata is an upbeat girl who is able to smile and crack a joke no matter what the situation is. She is incredibly charismatic and when she has her mind set on something, she gets it done. That’s why it was surprising when fans found out that she had Mannequin’s Disease, which kept her from making any facial expressions during times of immense sadness.
When Akito Hayama told her that he was moving to Los Angeles, Sana nearly lost her acting career.
1 Mermaid Melody Pitchi Pitchi Pitch: The Love Interest Is The Villain’s Brother
Kaito Domoto is the main love interest of the mermaid Lucia Nanami, and he is also the twin brother of Gaito. If the two brothers were ever to join their powers, they would be capable of destroying the world, rather than simply conquering it.
Kaito spends a large portion of the series without any knowledge of his past, assuming that he was a human since he was raised by two humans who found him on the shore.
