Good Girls: Greg’s Escort Proposal Almost Destroys Stan’s Marriage

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for NBC’s Good Girls Season 4, Episode 5, “The Banker.”

Season 4 of NBC’s Good Girls has really put Stan (Reno Wilson) and Ruby (Retta) through the wringer as they try to patch up their marriage. Ruby’s still running her racket in Michigan with Beth and Annie, while Stan’s trying to make ends meet at the strip joint. However, after his sinister boss, Greg, finds out he stole from them, Stan’s now an enforcer that Greg has in his clutches. In the latest episode, Greg gives Stan an indecent proposal that almost destroys his marriage, leaving him scared of just how deep he’s in with the mob.

Stan’s sick and tired of being a collector — beating down people for Greg — but he has no choice. Greg has corrupt cops on the books and all the evidence he needs to put Stan away. All of this, plus the guilt of being a full-fledged criminal is really stressing Stan out, so much so he ends up drinking with Greg during the day at a hotel.

The situation gets a bit uncomfortable for Stan when Greg hits on him. He comments on Stan’s physique and touches him inappropriately. However, it turns out Greg is checking him out because he wants Stan to hook up with someone else. It’s why they’re at a fancy hotel in the first place. Greg wants to loosen Stan up at the bar to perform duties as a male escort.

Stan doesn’t want to, but Greg threatens that he can let Ruby work off the debt instead. As a result, Stan does what he’s supposed to but, by this time, Ruby’s already suspicious. She caught him lying about being at the club and eating his lunch, so she asks Beth — whose husband stepped out on her years ago — if it seems like an affair. Later, when Ruby inspects Stan’s car, she finds a purse, prompting her to confront him.

Stan reveals that Greg caught him stealing and made him his lackey. He doesn’t go into the details of his private meeting, but he insists it was just to convince a lady to work with Greg to bring in fake purses. Ruby trusts he wouldn’t cheat on her and believes the lie. But as Stan walks away, he has a pensive and somewhat shameful cloud over him. We never saw what happened in the hotel room, and he’s become pretty good at hiding the truth from his wife for the sake of their family. For now, only time will tell if Stan really did cross the line.

Good Girls stars Christina Hendricks, Mae Whitman, Retta, Matthew Lillard, Reno Wilson and Manny Montana. Season 4 airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
