Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness — the upcoming sequel to the 2016 Marvel Cinematic Universe film Doctor Strange — is in its final week of production, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has confirmed.
In a video interview with The Undefeated regarding Marvel Studios’ ongoing Disney+ original series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Feige explained that he is currently in London for the final stretch of filming on Multiverse of Madness. Set for release in March 2022, the Doctor Strange sequel follows the events of the Disney+ WandaVision, which stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and ran from Jan. 15 to March 5 of this year.

“The idea was to go back and forth — that we weren’t creating two classes of storylines or two classes of productions. And I think now that people have seen WandaVision and four out of the six [episodes] of Falcon and Winter Soldier and the trailer for Loki, they’re seeing that these are A-class productions — just as big and just as important as the movies” Feige said. “I’m here in London on the set of Doctor Strange 2 for our final week and Lizzie is here, having worked non-stop, from wrapping WandaVision to stepping right into Doctor Strange 2.”
Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson was initially slated to direct Multiverse of Madness. Derrickson ultimately stepped down as director, though remains attached to the film as an executive producer. In turn, Sam Raimi — director of Sony’s original Spider-Man film trilogy — was tapped to helm the Doctor Strange sequel, even bringing along Spider-Man collaborator Danny Elfman to compose the film’s score.
In addition to Benedict Cumberbatch reprising his role as Stephen Strange and Olsen reprising her role as Scarlet Witch, Multiverse of Madness will see Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams Chiwetel Ejiofor reprise their roles as Wong, Christine Palmer and Karl Mordo, respectively. The film is also slated to introduce Marvel Comics character America Chavez to the MCU, with Xochitl Gomez playing the role. The film was originally slated for release on May 7 of this year, but faced multiple delays due to COVID-19, and is currently slated to arrive next year on March 25.
