Naruto: 10 Times The Konoha 11 Saved The Day | CBR

The Konoha 11 were the next generation of shinobi in the Naruto universe. All of its members were from the teams of Kurenai, Might Guy, Asuma, and Kakashi. Sasuke Uchiha was the only exception on account of his betrayal to the Leaf.

Most of them have contributed to Konoha’s efforts in overcoming those who would bring their people ruin in one regard or another. Through identifying the ways its champions have saved the day, we can better appreciate their relevance in the overarching story even with an expansive roster of characters.

10 Ino Protects Konoha’s Border

Ino was a brilliant sensory type shinobi and proved vital to Konoha’s prosperity after the devastation of the Fourth Shinobi War. She led a barrier team intended to identify the chakra pulses of everyone entering and exiting the village, allowing them to facilitate foreign traffic and protect the nation’s denizens.

This was an essential service that would have proven useful sooner since Naruto was nearly kidnapped by Kisame and Itachi in the original series. However, her invaluable diligence ensures that the Leaf’s children will be afforded safety that the Konoha 11 themselves did not enjoy.

9 Kiba Held Off Sakon & Ukon

Sakon and Ukon were lieutenants in service to Orochimaru. They possessed the ability to enter their adversary’s body and destroy them from the inside out, proving an insurmountable threat against melee exclusive fighters – such as Kiba.

Nonetheless, the hound shinobi stood his ground against his assailants, willing to carve out his own flesh to protect himself and a wounded Akamaru. Were it not for his courage (and Kankuro’s eventual assistance), Orochimaru’s agents would have joined Sasuke’s efforts in the battle against Naruto and likely encouraged him to kill his former friend after his victory.

8 Choji Overcame His Sentimentality To Seal Asuma

While Choji’s kindness contributes to his likability, it is crippling in combat. During the Fourth Shinobi War, Asuma’s former students were forced to fight him. Since Choji did not want to hurt his teacher regardless of his undead condition, he struggled to join Shikamaru’s efforts and follow through with the plan.

Nonetheless, after being encouraged both by his friends and his former mentor, he mustered the resolve to smash an enlarged fist against Asuma’s body. His attack pulverized Asuma and rendered him vulnerable for the sealing team to put his spirit at ease.

7 Rock Lee Saved Team Seven From Dosu

After the encounter with Orochimaru in the Forest of Death, Team Seven was severely wounded. Sasuke and Naruto were both unconscious, and Sakura could not fend off Dosu and his encroaching allies by herself.

Providentially, Rock Lee leaped into the fray on Sakura’s behalf and began to pummel her assailants despite the fact there was no immediate benefit for his chivalry. Though the taijutsu expert would ultimately lose against the villains, Sasuke woke up to conclude the battle decisively with the power of the curse mark at his disposal.

6 Shino & The Aburame Clan Staved Off Konan

During Pain’s invasion of the Leaf, Shino and the Aburame Clan came upon Konan. Correctly identifying her as threat from her Akatsuki robes, they plunged into battle and attacked her with chakra-draining insects.

Though their efforts would be insufficient on account of Konan’s exploding paper bomb clones, their defense of the Leaf prevented her from attacking anyone else. The villainess would shortly retire to Nagato’s side after their encounter, where she would protect him until Naruto’s victory and the resolution of the conflict.

5 Sakura Saved Kankuro’s Life

After Kankuro’s encounter with Sasori, he was placed in mortal peril. The puppet master suffered from the Akatsuki member’s venom, an affliction that had no known antidote at the time and would kill its target over a three-day period without fail.

Not only was Sakura able to reach the Sand village in this limited window, but she also invented an antidote that would see him restored. Her actions strengthened the relationship between Konoha and its allies, vindicating their heroism during the Sasuke retrieval arc and providing a framework for the future challenges to come (namely, the Fourth Shinobi War).

4 Hinata Saved Naruto From Pain

Hinata Protecting Naruto

Despite the sage jutsu infused in Naruto’s body and the fact that Pain was already significantly weakened from casting the Almighty Push, it still seemed as if the villain would ultimately reign victorious. He managed to pin Naruto down with rods and prepared to land the killing stroke.

Hinata proved to be Naruto’s unlikely savior, demonstrating how far she had progressed since the Chunin Exams by holding off Nagato temporarily. Though Hinata predictably was unable to win the fight by herself, she bought her crush the time he needed to free himself and finish what he started.

3 Neji Saved Naruto From The Gedo Statue’s Barbs

The Gedo Statue’s onslaught was so prodigious that it endangered the entirety of the Allied Shinobi Forces even with Naruto’s protection. Spiked barbs sailed through the air indiscriminately, nearly skewering the unprepared hero.

However, Neji thrust his body in the midst of the stray projectile before it could find its mark. This saved Naruto’s life at the cost of Neji’s and served as one of the Fourth Shinobi War’s most poignant tragedies. Naruto assured Neji that his death would not be vain.

2 Shikamaru Halted Sound Ninja From Pursuing Naruto & Sakura

During the invasion of the Leaf, many Sound ninja intended to impede Naruto’s efforts in confronting Gaara. Considering their superior experience, they might have posed a decent threat against him.

However, Shikamaru intervened on his behalf, using an advanced shadow possession technique to stop the shinobi in their tracks. Though his actions would deplete his stamina and eventually allow his enemies to retaliate, Asuma joined the battle and soundly defeated the regiment of villains. It excellently established the bond between Shikamaru and his mentor and deepened the tragedy that would later occur.

1 Naruto Saved The World From Sasuke

3 naruto versus sasuke final battle

After Kaguya’s defeat, Sasuke displayed little interest in returning to the status quo of the shinobi world. Rather than abandoning his malice, he wanted to intensify it and dominate those already captured beneath the sway of the Infinite Tsukuyomi – beginning with Naruto and the Five Kage.

This forced the young hero to engage in a final reckoning with his former friend, one which would cost both combatants an arm. Nonetheless, Sasuke finally agreed to abandon his wayward path after the fight had concluded, beginning the long and arduous journey of atonement.
