Noah Centineo became a teenage heartthrob when Netflix‘s first To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before movie premiered in 2018. But his acting career started long before that. One of the roles he played prior to Peter was Jesus Adams Foster on The Fosters. However, actor Jake T. Austin originated that role, and Centineo took over once Austin left after Season 2.
Jesus’s new appearance was blatantly obvious in Season 3 as Centineo doesn’t look like Austin. Let’s break down why Jake T. Austin decided to leave The Fosters, and how Noah Centineo got cast in the role.

Who Was Jesus Adams Foster On The Fosters?
Jake T. Austin started his acting career in childhood. He voiced Diego in the kids’ cartoon, Go, Diego, Go! and played Max Russo on Disney Channel‘s Wizards of Waverly Place. In 2013, he appeared in a more mature role on Freeform’s The Fosters as 15-year-old Jesus Adams Foster. He was the twin brother of Mariana Adams Foster, and both had a rough childhood bouncing around the foster system until being adopted by Lena and Stef Adams Foster.
In the Season 2 finale, Jesus gets in a bad car crash and the episode is left on a cliffhanger. At the time, the audience didn’t know if he had survived or not. When Austin revealed on Twitter that he was leaving the show, fans immediately assumed his character died in the car crash. However, this wasn’t the case, as revealed when The Fosters recast Jesus with Noah Centineo.
The car crash was used as a way to bring in the new actor. At the beginning of the third season, Jesus’s new appearance was said to be due to the surgery he underwent because of the accident.
Why Jake T. Austin Left The Fosters
When Austin announced on Twitter he was leaving The Fosters, he didn’t provide an explanation. This led many to believe he disliked being on the show and didn’t want to do “teen roles” anymore. He contested that claim, again on Twitter, saying the reason he left was that he wanted a more substantial role. Apparently, his role was going to be greatly reduced in Season 3, and he decided to depart from The Fosters because of this.
Enter Noah Centineo. At the time, the actor was best known for his role as Dallas on Disney Channel’s Austin & Ally. He portrayed Jesus on The Fosters from Season 3 until the series wrapped in Season 5.
