Marvel: 5 Weapons Stronger Than Captain America’s Shield (& 5 That Are Weaker)

As a symbol of hope and protection for America, and the rest of the world, Captain America’s shield is one of the most iconic weapons in the Marvel Universe. Designed by Howard Stark for the super soldier in the 1940s, initially from steel, then later from the world’s strongest material Vibranium, the shield is also extremely useful and powerful when it comes to superhero action.

It can take several blows, protect you from gunfire, reduce the impact of high falls, and we haven’t even mentioned that it can handle Iron Man’s repulsor rays and Thor’s hammer. But, seeing as it is only a shield, it’s fair to say that it isn’t the most powerful weapon in the universe, in fact, Thanos even showed us in Avengers: Endgame that it can be destroyed.

10 Weaker: Bucky’s Arm Can Deal A Heavy Blow, But Not Quite Enough

Keeping with the theme of Captain America, Steve Roger’s best friend, all the way back from his childhood in Brooklyn, Bucky Barnes was also given a powerful weapon during the war, like Cap, but this weapon wasn’t built for the good of humanity. Instead of a supposedly indestructible shield, Bucky was given a metal cybernetic arm by Hydra after his fall from the train in Captain America: The First Avenger.

Bucky used this arm to undergo his assassin tasks as the Winter Solider but is finally using it for good in the most recent installments of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The arm is incredibly powerful and definitely packs a heavy punch, but with limited flexibility, and seeing as many heroes like Spider-Man and Isaiah Bradley have stopped or ripped off the arm, it’s definitely destructible.

9 Stronger: The Hammer Of The Gods Is Worthy Of Praise

Since we first met Thor in his solo outing, his hammer Mjolnir was incredibly important to the character. His entire first movie was essentially all about Thor proving himself to be worthy of the hammer, showing just how important it is and since, it has gone on to be a major part in winning multiple battles.

From ripping apart Ultron’s army to beating up the raging Hulk, Mjolnir’s main ability is the ability to smash things, but there is a lot more beneath the surface. Its elemental powers like the ability to fly with it, the enchantment so that only those worthy can wield the weapon, and the inherent powers of The God of Thunder meaning it can concentrate lighting bolts to an enemy, make it one of the most powerful weapons of all time.

8 Weaker: Star Lord’s Quad Blasters Don’t Usually Shoot Bubbles

The iconic and key member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, doesn’t have any real superpowers, instead, his brains and his technology are what separates him from the rest. The most impressive of his weaponry and suit is his quad blaster. What makes the gun so special and unique compared to other blasters, in the two different barrels.

While the top barrel shoots plasma shoots, the bottom barrel gives out electric shocks, making it an incredibly strong hit, especially if both barrels are triggered at the same time. Then again it is only a gun, and as seen when Thanos used the reality stone to make the gun shoot bubbles, Peter’s quad blaster can easily be outdone by plenty of other weapons.

7 Stronger: Spidey’s Web-Shooters Have To Be Regarded As Genius

An incredibly impressive trait of a hero is intuition and intelligence, so when they design and make their own weapons, you know they are pretty remarkable. While they are not on the same level as Tony Stark’s homemade Iron Man suit, Peter Parker’s web-shooters are an impressive piece of equipment.

Mirroring the strength and flexibility of actual spider webs, Parker was able to make his own web fluid to make his shooters. From swinging across New York city or flinging Cap’s shield away from him, they have been used to great strength in the movies, and since Stark’s upgrades, giving the kid 576 web-shooter combinations to use, there’s no surprise that it would outperform Cap’s shield.

6 Weaker: Black Widow’s Spy Bites Are Pretty Cool

Black Widow isn’t the most powerful hero, but her impressive fighting skills and ability help her stand her ground against the villains, and usually, she puts up a fight if not defeats them with ease. But punches and kicks can only go so far, so with the help of some smart technology, Natasha Romanoff can become even more of a force.

One particular piece of technology, her Black Widow Bite can give enemies an electric shock capable of knocking someone out. The lethal weapon has been used on multiple occasions from the Chitauri attack at the Battle of New York to stopping Black Panther as he chased after Cap and Bucky in Captain America: Civil War.

5 Stronger: Yondu’s Yaka Arrow Has The Ability To Glide Through Enemies

The Yaka Arrow, forged by Centaurians, was first introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 1. Another hero using arrows against villains may not have seemed impressive at first, but after finding out the true power of the Yaka Arrow, it’s hard to imagine many forces that Yondu, or now Kraglin, couldn’t completely wipe out before they even realized.

After mastering the probably complicated sensitivities of the weapon, the wielder of the arrow is able to control its every move. Manipulating how it will fly around and aiming it straight through the flesh of your enemies is by no means an easy task, but after mastering the technique for years as Yondu did, it’s almost impossible to stop.

4 Weaker: Dr. Strange’s Cloak of Levitation Is A Useful Ally

The mythical world of Doctor Strange opened up a multiverse of potential for the MCU, and along with the awesome new characters involved like Stephen Strange himself and the Ancient One, some of the coolest parts of his solo film was when they showed us the incredible collection of mystical weapons on show at the Sanctum Sanctorum.

Perhaps the coolest piece from the collection came in the odd form of a cloak and almost seemed to have its own personality. It could fly, levitate the hero it landed on, and even strangle the enemy, in fact, the cloak even put up a fight against Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, proving how the iconic fashion statement isn’t just about the looks.

3 Stronger: Stormbreaker Was Crafted As The Greatest Weapon Of All Time From A Dying Star

Stormbreaker thor Infinity War

After the tragic loss of Mjolnir to his half-sister Hela in Thor: Ragnarok, Thor went on a mission to find a weapon capable of defeating Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. After meeting up with Eitri the Dwarf and melted the same metal from Mjolnir with the power of a dying star, Stormbreaker was born.

In many ways similar to his previous hammer, Stormbreaker was the perfect weapon for the battle with Thanos thanks to its larger size and ability to gain more power, it’s just a shame Thor didn’t go for the head seeing as he was so close to stopping the Mad Titan. The only downside of the elite weapon is it doesn’t have the enchantment of Mjolnir, but who really cares when it’s that powerful.

2 Weaker: Hawkeye’s Bow Isn’t The Most Powerful Weapon

Hawkeye

In a world full of gods, geniuses, super-soldiers, and the Big Three, it’s hard to imagine a fairly regular guy like Clint Barton putting up a fight against the most powerful of villains. It may have something to do with a little movie magic, but it is also clear that Barton is due some credit for his spy skills and his obvious incredible ability with a simple weapon like a bow and arrow.

He is able to hit basically any target he needs to, and with the additional help of high-tech arrows like those that have explosives or give off electrical currents, Hawkeye is a force to be reckoned with. The talented marksman may not have the most impressive or powerful weapon, but somehow he always makes it work and helps out the Avengers in a big way.

1 Stronger: The Infinity Gauntlet Has To Be The Number One Lethal Weapon In The Multiverse

Thanos holds up his gauntlet

Seeing as the entire infinity saga of the MCU was setting up the eventual collection of the infinity stones into the famous infinity gauntlet, it’s no surprise that this had to be the number one most lethal weapon in the multiverse. With the power of all six infinity stones, the wielder of the gauntlet could practically do whatever they please, and as we saw by Thanos, could snap half of all life out of existence.

In fact, the Infinity Gauntlet is so strong that most people can’t even wield it. Thanos and Hulk both nearly died after snapping their fingers, and Tony Stark wasn’t able to withstand the power and sadly passed at the end of Avengers: Endgame. With the powers of the time, power, space, reality, soul, and mind stones all at your fingertips, it’s hard to imagine any limits to its power.
