WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Superman & Lois Season 1, Episode 5, “The Best of Smallville.”
The CW’s Superman & Lois has slowly began unravelling a chasm between the Kent twins as Jordan recently stole the spotlight from Jonathan. With Jordan having his dad’s powers and becoming the football team’s star player at Smallville High School, Jonathan’s slowly seeing that the life he enjoyed in Metropolis is slipping away. Unfortunately, he makes a huge mistake, coming off as the Super Sons’ bigger brat, which ends up ruining Jordan’s potential romance with Lana’s daughter, Sarah.

Clark hopes the Harvest Festival will bring the family together, especially after mysterious occurrences about Morgan Edge’s team come up. There are metahumans around as the villain runs his scheme to harness X-Kryptonite, but Clark remains optimistic about this event as it’s something the deceased Martha turned into a joyous tentpole for the town.
Jonathan isn’t into it though, as he got dumped by his girlfriend in Metropolis, Eliza, and lashes out at Clark for uprooting him from his popular city life, and he wants to move back and stay with friends there. Kal-El was hoping they’d come to understand their identities in Smallville, but all this leads to is Jonathan getting wasted at the festival.
What makes it worse is he “playfully” confronts Sarah and Jordan, who’s glad to have finally secured a date with her after she broke it off with Sean. However, she’s not amused, as Jonathan keeps making fun of his brother on his first date. Jonathan’s behavior is the same kind of immature frat boy attitude Sarah despises, chiding him for being the typical guy and getting drunk. The animosity comes from a personal place, as Lana and her dad, Kyle, are fighting, so to see Jonathan — whose parents are perfect — whining like this enrages her.
When Jordan tries to defend Jonathan, as he alone knows what his brother is going through due to the move, Sarah goes off on him too and storms away. Jonathan’s sad, as he didn’t mean to cause friction, but he’s glad his brother has his back. Jordan also feels guilty, as they have to hide out in Smallville for him to properly harness his powers.
Even Clark and Lois, as angry as they are, offer an olive branch as they understand why Johnathan got drunk. However, when Jordan meets Sarah up later, she admits she just wants to be friends. Pursuing something would bring drama, and after being a wild child in the past, she’s slowing it down. It leaves Jordan bummed, as he really likes her and was hoping their ill-timed kiss early on this season would lead to a relationship.
Superman & Lois stars Tyler Hoechlin, Elizabeth Tulloch, Dylan Walsh, Alex Garfin, Jordan Elsass, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Inde Navarrette and Wolé Parks. The series returns May 18 and will air Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
