The Robin creative team of Joshua Williamson and Gleb Melnikov have revealed the first look at a new mystery character, who will make their debut in the first issue of Damian Wayne’s ongoing DC series.
Williamson shared Melnikov’s artwork for the new character, who goes by the name Respawn. Fans will get to see Respawn make their debut in Robin #1, with pre-orders beginning this week. “The new mystery character in the ROBIN ongoing series is named RESPAWN,” Williamson tweeted. “A NEW deadly force in the fight tournament, their real identity will be a major mystery in our Robin story. Art by @GlebMelnikov8! Robin #1 is Respawn’s first appearance! Pre-order this week!”
Respawn’s outfit consists of a red-and-black color tone, with half of the facemask red with the other side black. The eye slots also alternate between red-and-black outlines. The mystery villain’s choice of weapon is a sickle attached to a long chain that twirls while being used.
As Williamson teased, Respawn and Robin will cross paths in the deadly fighting tournament Damian will participate in. The League of Lazarus — an offshoot of the League of Shadows — is gathering the DC Universe’s greatest fighters to Lazarus Island for this tournament. It is unknown which group Respawn is representing, or if Respawn is a free agent.
Another character already revealed to be participating in the League of Lazarus’ tournament is Connor Hawke, son of Green Arrow Oliver Queen. The cover of Robin #3 features Damian and Connor coming to blows, with a previous cover to the issue hiding Connor’s identity from fans.
Written by Joshua Williamson and illustrated by Gleb Melnikov, Robin #1 goes on sale April 27 from DC.
