Chinese technology conglomerate Tencent and the Chinese police worked together to bust the “world’s biggest” video game cheat ring.
The tech giant and law enforcement’s collaboration led to the takedown of the illegal operation known as “Chicken Drumstick,” as reported by BBC. According to Chinese police, 10 people were arrested in connection to the illegal cheat ring. According to local media, the police seized over $46 million in assets, including luxury cars. The police referred to the ring as the “world’s biggest” cheating operation, due to its assets and the number of games involved.

Before the huge bust, Chicken Drumstick had racked in roughly $76 million in revenue from the illegal operation. The organization made its revenue by charging its clients a monthly subscription fee. The fees ranged from around $10 per day to $200 for a monthly subscription. The ring designed and sold video game cheats to major games such as Overwatch and Call of Duty Mobile. According to the authorities, they found and destroyed 17 game cheats during the raid.
Chicken Drumstick’s bust is a major win for Tencent Games, as the ring was cutting into the company’s gaming operations, with stakes in huge games such as PUBG and Fortnite along with its console and gaming platform WeGame.
