Marvel’s MODOK Clip Showcases Wild Antics at AIM | CBR

A hilariously over-the-top sneak peek at Hulu’s upcoming adult animated series Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. features a scientific brawl.

M.O.D.O.K. co-creator Jordan Blum revealed the clip at a virtual WonderCon Q&A panel alongside the show’s cast, describing it as a “very simple clip about two A.I.M. employees having a disagreement at the office.” In execution, the clip shows M.O.D.O.K. (voiced by series co-creator Patton Oswalt) and Monica Rappaccini (Wendi McLendon-Covey) engage in a “mad scientist fight” over their conflicting viewpoints, deploying a variety of lethal weapons upon one another which include buzzsaws, lasers, expanding missiles, shields and acid capsules.

The fight also features a number of running gags and absurdist parody moments, such as M.O.D.O.K. repeatedly shooting Monica in her shoulder and deploying miniature versions of himself who scream nonsensically “because it’s cool.” At one point, Monica uses a device that turns both of them pixelated, resulting in a 2-D side-scroller battle with moves reminiscent of Street Fighter. As it turns out, however, their fight is also being recorded by a blond-haired man to his silhouetted superiors over the phone, who believe Monica “is the key” to some unknown goal, rather than M.O.D.O.K.

Prior to Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K., both M.O.D.O.K./George Tarleton and Monica Rappaccini appeared as the main antagonists of Square Enix’s Marvel‘s Avengers, having grown A.I.M. in the wake of A-Day to study Terrigen while building new robots to “protect” the public from Inhumans. Trailers for the Hulu stop-motion series, by comparison, have teased a Robot Chicken-inspired visual style and more comedic storytelling approach about the A.I.M. leader coping with financial issues at work and dysfunctional family troubles at home. Recently, the show’s cast was expanded to not only include Jon Hamm as Iron Man, but also Whoopi Goldberg, Nathan Fillion and Bill Hader in supporting roles.
