A company in Japan deemed March 26 a business-wide holiday because so many of its employees asked for the day off to play the Monster Hunter Rise video game on its launch day.
Masaki Hiyama, of tech developer Mark-On Ltd., created “Monster Hunter Rise Launch Day,” after realizing his employees wouldn’t be focused on their job that day, as reported by IGN. Twitter user @Stealth40K was the first person to share the memo about the holiday online.
This is amazing…… a Japanese Company is giving employees the day off for a new holiday “Monster Hunter Rise Launch Day” because so many employees were planning on taking the day off anyway.

He wrote in the caption, “This is amazing…… a Japanese Company is giving employees the day off for a new holiday ‘Monster Hunter Rise Launch Day’ because so many employees were planning on taking the day off anyway.”
A translated version of the memo revealed that Hiyama told employees, “It is assumed that you will not be able to concentrate on your work, so it is called “Monster Hunter Holiday.'” However, the holiday only applied to “non-executive employees.”
Monster Hunter is one of the most popular game franchises in Japan and celebrated its 25th anniversary this year. In 2018, Monster Hunter: World became the highest-selling game in Capcom’s history with 16.8 million units sold.
Developed and published by Capcom for the Nintendo Switch, Monster Hunter Rise is the sixth installment in the Monster Hunter series. The action-based RPG casts the player in the role of a Hunter who is tasked with slaying or trapping large monsters using a variety of weapons and tools. Ahead of the official release of Monster Hunter Rise, critics praised the game as a worthy successor to Monster Hunter World.
Monster Hunter Rise will also receive a PC port in early 2022, while Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is set for release on Nintendo Switch and PC in July.
